Overview:

Security Officers are responsible for observing and reporting safety and security hazards affecting the personnel and property of the University; and to assist in enforcing University Safety and Security rules and regulations. The Security officer interacts with a variety of persons including; faculty; staff; students; contractors; vendors; visitors; public safety officials; and the general public.Responsibilities:Protect persons and property from unlawful activities and provide a safe and secure campus environment.Identify suspicious persons, behaviors and circumstances that may pose a public safety risk and take immediate and appropriate action to prevent incidents.Patrol campus and buildings. Monitor building-conditions and respond to unsafe conditions, hazards, and emergencies, etc. following safety guidelines. Respond to public safety alarms and assist with lockouts.Enforcing parking regulations, give directions and respond to requests for assistance and information.Prepare all required written reports such as responding, compiling and reporting all information in regard to theft alarms, accidents, and other incidents that may occur.Monitor alarms and panels for emergencies that might arise within the facility.Handle special assignments directed by Director of Campus Safety, such as: driving individuals between locations on a regular or intermittent schedule, special events, reception/visitor building posts, and working in command office as needed.Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:High School Diploma or G.E.D required.Prior law enforcement, military, or security experience preferred.Valid California drivers licenseBasic computer skillsExcellent knowledge of security protocolsAbility to operate security systems and emergency equipmentAbility to lift objects up to 50 lbs.Must have sufficient hearing to respond to normal verbal speech, alarms, radio and telephone communicationsMust have sufficient visual acuity to read and understand faculty/staff listings, posted orders, maps, computer screens, check identification, and to distinguish the faces of faculty/staff, contractors, vendors, guests and visitorsMust be able to stand, walk and/or drive for up to 90% of the assigned shiftMust have a command of the English language that is easily understoodMust be able to respond quickly to incidents and emergencies (Rapid Response). Rapid Response may include, but is not limited to, running, squatting, crouching, kneeling, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and operating Touro vehicles
