Join our fintech culture within a Blue-Chip company where we are changing the way we use technology to support our customers, dealers and business.Responsibilities:About the Role:The Global Virtualization & Cloud Engineer III, under the general direction of the Manager, will assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team's success including the planning, design, implementation, and support of VMWare, Windows Server and/or desktop platforms. This team member is responsible primarily for the assessment, optimization, and automation of virtualization platforms. This individual will become thoroughly familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements adhering to all corporate policies and standards. This person needs to be experienced in technology with good planning and coordination skills. An energetic, solution minded personality with drive, attention to details and excellent communication skills will be needed for success in this position. Additionally, the engineers will focus on sustainability and improvement of processes, including any or all of the following duties: documenting managed environments, basic project management tasks, evening and weekend deployments, maintenance of ticketing queues and after hours on call.Serve as an infrastructure engineer for the multi-disciplinary project teams they are assignedBuild, install, configure and maintain VMware products including ESXi servers, HA clusters and vCenterProvide advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of the entire Virtualization InfrastructureResearch root cause of problems and escalate to engineering and vendor support as necessaryDevelop, automate and implement operational best practicesPerform Capacity Management functionsEffectively collaborate with Server / Storage / Network / Data Center / Facilities / Audit / Compliance and PMO teamsManage problem and service tickets ensuring timely resolution to meet expected service levelsParticipate in Business Continuation / Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testingMust have the ability to understand and relate to new products, technology, strategy and be able to follow directionsAbility to conduct training sessions to share knowledge with peers and other support teams is necessaryDevelop, implement, troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, configuration and operational problems across the VMware and Wintel platformsDevelop, implement, and maintain automated processes using VMWare vRealize Orchestrator and VMWare vRealize Automation technologiesDevelop, implement, and maintain public cloud infrastructure presence (Azure VMware Solution, VMware Cloud on AWS)Effectively communicates current status of all projects, problems, and issues to the department management teamProactively identifies opportunities for improvements to existing processes and for automation of time consuming tasksEnsure that all virtualization platforms are running at optimal capacityStudy and analyze the performance and capacities of the systems and peripheral equipment/systems and prepare plans for future expansion and upgradesCollaborates with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver the artifacts as neededMust have high attention to detail, be well organized and be a self-starterMust be able to work with limited to moderate direct supervisionContributes to the development of RFPs/SOWs and participates in the vendor selection processUses a broad and deep understanding of technical concepts in multiple specialized fields to develop solutions to problems and critical design issuesResolves most conflicts between timeline, budget, and scope independently but intuitivelyIdentifies and directs changes through appropriate review and approval mechanismsMaintain Service Now change and incident queue, closing tickets in a timely manner with appropriate documentation and change management queue Working ticketing system incident and change management queue as neededGeneral Windows operating system and applications supportPeriodic platform upgrades as needed, both on the OS and application tierInstall system patches and application updates as directedRespond to compliance assessments and initiate corrective action when appropriate for audit and compliance remediationDefine and evangelize enterprise policies, standards and position statements for new and existing Virtualization and Automation related technologiesThe candidate must be willing to accommodate weekend, shift or on-call schedules when necessary, and participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours supportAssist the management team with research in order to stay abreast of the latest developments in Virtualization, Automation and physical Wintel technologies, trends, and knowledge, and legislationAssist the management team in determining the direction and enhancement of automation processes to meet the needs of the organizationIdentify and evaluate third party vendors, technology, or processes for integration with GM Financials technology and equipmentAssist other engineers with performance analysis, process improvement, task automation, and systems capacity planningCapacity to work with a high degree of professionalism, communicating effectively and appropriately
