Systems Integration Engineer, Thermal Systems

Tesla, Stanford, California, United States, 94305

The Thermal Systems Software team is seeking a Systems Integration Engineer who will be at the center of new development of vehicle thermal systems on all Tesla Vehicles. They will be responsible for ensuring software development, integration, and validation for new vehicle features are designed, implemented, and tested to achieve Tesla's standards for safety and customer experience.Tesla Thermal Systems manage the temperature of critical powertrain systems like the battery, drive units and charger. Tesla has developed sophisticated industry leading thermal management systems for our vehicles and this role will focus on heating and cooling of the powertrain and vehicle cabin to deliver peak performance and efficiency. The Thermal System Integration Engineer will lead initiatives to make the system more robust and fault tolerant, introduce new hardware pedigrees, enable new features, increase performance, and refine the overall system. Integration engineers are expected to get into the thermal systems by reviewing and developing source code, root causing issues, proposing solutions to complex problems, and testing prototype software implementation in-vehicle.

Responsibilities

Work with the design and development engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure the relevant subsystems are designed with appropriate requirements, interfaces, and interactions to achieve specific vehicle functionsBreak down new, high-level feature requests into sub-system and component level requirements, and drive the implementation, testing and release of these features against Tesla's software release scheduleUtilize critical analysis of potential failure modes and effects to influence these requirementsDevelop overall validation strategy for these features and work with validation teams to ensure automated test coverage is implemented for future firmware releasesWork cross-functionally across mechanical, electrical, system architecture, software development and software validation teams to understand new component-level hardware changes which are being developed and how to support them in firmware - both in manufacturing and for customer use - so that they can be seamlessly introduced to our vehicle platformsDig into data and source code to identify and debug issues at the system level and propose robust solutionsWork with manufacturing and service to ensure the function(s) are rolled out and functioning properly (can include development of processes, diagnostic tools and methods, and root-cause diagnosis for product issues)Collaborate with validation teams to design tests, identify areas of concern, and rectify any bugsLead and manage integration of initial prototype systems including bring-up, debug, and engineering test of alpha- and beta-phase prototype vehiclesRequirements
