GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.

Performs initial nutrition assessment and follow-up education on patients prescribed specific ILT diet regimens. This position requires extensive knowledge in the treatment of obesity and the use of behavioral modalities to effect change. The dietitian must possess strong interpersonal and teaching skills to communicate information to patients and colleagues. This position is 100% virtual.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.

  1. Assess and educate patients on their initial prescribed diet regimen.
  2. Counsel follow-up patients on a weekly basis to ensure program compliance, nutritional adequacy and formulation of weekly weight management goals.
  3. Assess and adjust weekly diet regimen based on weight changes, laboratory values and clinical parameters.
  4. Document pertinent information in the medical record at each patient visit.
  5. Work with interdisciplinary staff (physicians, physicians assistants, dietitians and program coordinator) in communicating any nutrition-related issues influencing the overall progress of the ILT patient.
  6. Perform weekly virtual visit/follow-up telephone calls to patients.
  7. Interpret, evaluate and utilize pertinent research in obesity to assist in "best practice" outcomes for the ILT patients.
  8. Assist in the development of new behavioral modification modules, as needed.
  9. Occasionally substitute for the Behavioral Dietitian in facilitating a weight loss or weight maintenance class
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.)

  1. Baccalaureate Degree
  2. Registered and Licensed Dietitian

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.)

  1. Knowledge of metabolism in relation to clinical nutrition
  2. Knowledge of food chemistry and macro/micronutrient composition of foods
  3. Basic interpersonal skills for interaction with a diverse group of people in the work setting (including patients and families, physicians, mangers, physicians' assistants, medical assistants, and administrative assistants)
  4. High level of analytical skills to interpret laboratory data, identify and plan individual weight loss programs and discriminate diet claims and their physiologic effect
  5. High level of interpersonal skills to provide "best practice" individual and group counseling to patients in program
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment
