Develops and utilizes appropriate health services and health monitoring programs while functioning as a student advocate, and develops and implements programs to assist students' and families' access to health care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
Cooperates in the development and implementation of the District health program.Participates with school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program based on student needs.Advises and educates teachers, students and parents on health matters and provides training activities when necessary.Identifies health problems including social, emotional and economic factors that interfere with learning through screening procedures, assessment and evaluation of students.Initiates, establishes and monitors quality assurance for the Presumptive Eligibility/Medicaid Onsite Application Assistance (PE/MOSAA) or other health care and/or education related programs as directed.Works collaboratively with school-based health care personnel.Assists in the supervising, training and delegating assignments to Health Assistants.Initiates medical and mental health referrals to parents, school personnel and community providers.Develops and implements individual health care plans.Provides remediation and follow-through on all referrals.Serves as a consultant and resource person to staff, parents and students in identifying community resources, environmental hazards and school safety issues.Acts as a liaison between the school, home and community providers regarding health information and referrals.Implements policies and procedures regarding school health and the control of communicable diseases in accordance with established policies and procedures.Oversees compliance with state immunization laws.Arranges for the routine care of ill and injured students.Manages and oversees the implementation of the District medication policy.Participates as a health professional in the evaluation process for students referred for special education services.Participates as a health professional on other relevant teams and at appropriate conferences and meetings.PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.Ability to communication effectively with State Agencies.Knowledge of District policies and procedures as they apply to health services.Knowledge of State and Federal guidelines that effect student access to health care and/or educational related programs.Knowledge of standard nursing practices and procedures.Knowledge of Federal, State and District confidentiality policy as related to students and families.REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, ADN in Nursing with three years of experience in Nursing & current enrollment in BSN Program, ADN with Bachelor's in Health related field.Valid New Mexico Nursing license 700, 701, 702, or 703Valid State Department of Education School Nurse licenseMaintains current CPR certificationOne year of experience in nursing or community nursing
