Job Description •To provide direct patient/Airway Care in all clinical areas •Provide airway management of all critical care/ventilated patients, responds to RRTs Code Blues etc •Adult Critical Care, NICU, ER/Trauma, Pediatrics and Telemetry •Responds to all Cardiorespiratory emergencies, rapid response request as assigned and provides respiratory care as needed •Handles, administers, and monitors medical gases (E,H cylinders) including Heliox mixtures •Administers aerosolized medications (bronchodilator, anti-inflammatory, mucolytic agents and antibiotics), evaluates the response and documents results •Initiates invasive and non-invasive ventilation, monitors, adjust parameters and alarms •Obtains written order for all therapies, invasive procedures, and changes that are initiated •Demonstrates proficiency in obtaining arterial blood gases for analysis •Performs limited bedside PFTs •Perform airway clearance utilizing-CPT and other devices (In/Exsufflator PEP device etc) •Participates in transporting mechanically ventilated patients as well as non-invasive patients •Performs artificial airway maintenance including suctioning and ET tape changes •Completes required documentation in hospital EMR and department records •Familiar with the use of MS Word and Excel •Performs cleaning, hi-level disinfecting, setup testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of patient care equipment •Provides clinical and limited administrative supervision of other RTs as outlined by the department •Ability to effectively participate in verbal and written interdisciplinary communication of patient plan of care •Responsible for communicating End-of tour bedside handoff report to oncoming staff •Provides education to patients/family/SO about their therapeutic and preventative therapies •Performs all other tasks as assigned by Supervisor and/or Designee
Minimum Qualifications 1. Graduation from an Associate Degree program in Respiratory Therapy approved by the New York State Board of Education or a program determined equivalent in accordance with the Commissioner of the State Board of Education's regulations; and, 2. Possession of a current license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of New York; and, 3. Possession of current registration as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
Special Notes: Individuals providing respiratory therapy services in New York on or after January 1, 1994 who believe they will meet, and submit documented evidence from the State Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services, of receipt of an application for licensure under the so-called grandparenting provisions of the new licensing law may continue to practice until either December 31, 1994 or receiving notice from the State Education Department of denial of licensure, whichever occurs first. At the time of appointment, and to maintain the position of Associate Respiratory Therapist, individuals must meet and maintain the licensure requirements set forth by the New York State Education Department covering the practice of respiratory therapy.
