Senior Associate Director, Alumnae EngagementJob Summary:
Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Alumnae Relations and the Director of Alumnae Relations, this position, which reports to the Director of Alumnae Relations, is responsible for the development and planning of alumnae programs in the following areas: young alumnae (past ten years of graduates), student engagement, and shared interest groups, as well as the identification and oversight of volunteer class leaders in classes from the past 20 years of graduation.Job Description:In partnership with Individual Giving, collaborate on young alumnae engagement, with the goal of firmly engaging our future donors and lead volunteers through targeted communications, engagement, and customized solicitations.
Conceptualize, plan, and implement young alumnae programs, events, and communications of interest, with the goal of strengthening alumnae connections and engagement with Barnard. Create and manage all online content (email invitations and announcements, event promotion pages, and event online registration pages) related to young alumnae events.
Manage Young Alumnae Committee (YAC) of the Alumnae Association of Barnard College (AABC) and work with chair to set agendas, direct strategy for engagement, and staff committee and all Young Alumnae programs and activities, guiding the YAC--while partnering with colleagues on campus and student leaders--to increase engagement, participation, and philanthropy from young alumnae and students.
In partnership with the Manager of Senior Fund and Volunteers, manage the student engagement strategy while partnering with colleagues on campus and student leaders--to increase engagement, participation, and philanthropy from students.
Conceptualize, plan, and implement programs that will engage all students with the alumnae network from Day 1, help them gain an understanding of the role of philanthropy at Barnard, expose them to a culture of giving, and create pride in the alumnae network. Build relationships with Student Engagement & Experience, current student clubs, and student leaders to facilitate meetings, events, and other meaningful engagement opportunities between students, as well as between students and alumnae. Cultivate student leaders with the goal of building a pipeline of young alumnae volunteers upon their graduation.
Plan individual class reunions, implement and coordinate invitations, letters and all other special arrangements with class officers and committees from the milestone reunion classes from the past 20 years. Assist class officers and reunion committees of each reunion class in developing the reunion program by producing class mailings, the reunion booklet, and securing nominations for future class leadership. In non-reunion years, encourage class officers to plan special class events and correspondence and help to implement these. Create and plan special events for decades or clusters of classes. Support the Alumnae Relations team on reunion-related programming as needed.
Serve as the supervisor for all student workers for Reunion by recruiting, interviewing, training, assigning, and managing a team of student workers leading up to and throughout Reunion weekend.
Assist Individual Giving staff in identifying alumnae for fundraising assignments. Develop alumnae identified by Development staff for leadership roles.
Coordinate with Barnard colleagues in the offices of Student Engagement & Experience, Development, Residential Life, Beyond Barnard, Admissions, and other offices as needed. Act as liaison to staff at Columbia College, Engineering, and General Studies, and other areas of the University as needed to coordinate alumnae events.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Director, and in collaboration with a board member of the Alumnae Association of Barnard College (AABC), the Senior Associate Director will develop and implement programs to strengthen shared interest connections under a new and formal structure through the AABC, similar to regional groups.
Develop a plan to recruit, train, and help guide shared interest group volunteers; coordinate with the AABC board representative in planning biannual conference calls; and utilize electronic communications to help facilitate Shared Interest Group leader communications and to share resources. Follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned responsibilities including volunteers' electronic communications, webpages, etc.
With the Executive Director and the Director, plan annual budget for young alumnae and student engagement. Research vendors and off-campus venues as needed and negotiate fair prices. Track all expenditures.
Develop a plan for a shared interest group funding process. Apprise groups of funding availability and criteria, process reimbursement requests, assess impact on engagement of added funding.
Adhere to systems designed to track event attendance patterns and to evaluate engagement levels following each event.
Perform other duties and work on other related projects as assigned. This includes managing young alumnae reunion committees and assisting with Reunion and other Alumnae programs as needed.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to work both in an office and at off-site events while managing competing priorities.
Ability to interact with a wide array of constituencies with diplomacy and tact.
Ability to maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional demeanor toward customers at all times.
Ability to work independently.
Excellent communications skills, in writing, by phone, and in person.
Excellent word processing, spreadsheet, and computer skills required.
Must meet the department's core values of collaboration, aspiration, transparency, respect, accountability, and trust.
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant employment experience.
Minimum of five to seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience in alumnae relations, public relations, development, volunteer program organization, or closely related activities.
Experience in customer service.
Experience producing events.
Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working in higher education.
Knowledge of volunteer management best practices.
Experience with volunteer management software.
Additional Information:This job is currently a hybrid position and may require a presence in the office up to five times a week, including for team and full staff meetings, events, and other times as directed by the supervisor.***Resume and cover letter required for application***Salary Range:
