Occupational Summary

Plan, manage, and coordinate buildings, grounds, and facilities maintenance, construction, renovation, and repair projects involving one or more skilled crafts to ensure efficient completion and compliance with specifications.

Work Performed

Plan, manage, and coordinate special maintenance, construction, renovation, and/or repair projects for buildings, grounds, and facilities to ensure efficiency and compliance with project specifications.Prepare cost estimates for renovations and special projects; determine the quality and quantity of materials, supplies, and manpower required.Assist in writing specifications for materials and workmanship to be utilized by contractors or in-house tradesmen in all phases of the project.Assist users or requesting departments in determining project requirements; maintain liaison between all parties concerned with the project to facilitate changes or modifications and to resolve project issues.Maintain liaison between University personnel and contractors on special projects; assist users in determining priorities for changes during construction or renovation.Inspect construction and/or renovation projects to ensure that procedures followed and materials used comply with specifications, contracts, and/or instructions; specify and approve any modifications of plans with contractors.Establish work schedules for different skilled crafts involved in projects to minimize conflicts and delays.Maintain records of construction and inspection activities and approve payment for contractors.Prepare cost analyses and reports on the necessity and progress of projects, as well as identify adverse trends and make appropriate recommendations.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesN/A

Minimum Qualifications

EducationRequires a Bachelor's Degree or related field in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience in design and construction.

ExperienceRequires five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in design, construction, and project management-related duties and activities. Experience in project management in a university setting or related institutional facilities is desirable. A professional license and master's degree in a related field, along with additional years of relevant experience, are preferred. Should have experience demonstrating competency and exposure to large-scale building projects involving all building trade divisions for research, educational facilities, or related commercial or industrial facilities. Familiarity with coordinating multiple interest groups and stakeholders is important. The ability to work within complex phasing constraints and in existing densely built mature facilities environments is a plus.
