OCCUPATIONAL SIMMARY
Plan and coordinate facility capital improvement projects for University construction and renovation programs to ensure compliance with procedures and standards of the University. Administer projects which support clinical and medical research functions. Coordinate with project stakeholders as required to facilitate the design process, generate design documents, obtain required approvals, and execute construction work with minimal disruption to operations. Develop or evaluate proposed planning and engineering designs and assisting in the supervision of activities related to the construction, renovation and repair to Medical Center facilities and equipment.
WORK PERFORMED
Coordinate engineering services for Health System & School of Medicine construction projects and/or programs to include preparing and/or evaluating proposed engineering designs, developing performance specifications and assisting in the supervision of project and/or program activities.Provide assistance to members of the Duke community in planning proposed projects. Maintain liaison with Duke Health Administration and leadership to review relevant plans and to assist in solving problems related to engineering designs.Prepare cost estimates and assist in identifying expenditures to establish project budgets.Inspect and evaluate construction projects to ensure that materials and methods used are in compliance with established safety standards and specifications and to ensure the maintenance of sound engineering standards.Supervise the preparation of documents to insure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing.Utilizing program management software tools, prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions.Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers and time off scheduling.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES
Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field of study.
North Carolina Board of Architecture or Engineering License is preferred.
Healthcare and Life Science/Research experience preferred.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of five to ten years' experience in planning, design and construction related to institutional and/or health care buildings and systems, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Skills
Sufficient leadership skills in supervision of general construction as a contractor or owner's representative.Effective verbal and written communication skills, and considerable knowledge of and experience in the use of computer software.Ability to be proactive and apply technical knowledge to improve deliverables, providing attention to detail to minimize errors.Ability to interact positively and effectively with diverse group of stakeholders.
