The Phlebotomist performs in-house lab testing, oversees operations of the lab and handles the preparation of lab specimens sent to the reference lab. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with staff, patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

Job Responsibilities :

Demonstrates proficiency in performing in-house testing.Knowledgeable of all lab procedures.Keeps lab neat, clean and organized.Files lab reports in a timely manner.Adheres to universal precaution at all times.Proficient in use of the lab computerAccurately collects lab specimens.Knows and uses proper reporting of lab tests.Performs veni-puncture by using correct technique.Demonstrates the ability to operate lab equipment.Demonstrates the ability to run lab controls daily.Consistently follows-up on outstanding test results by contacting the reference lab.Consistently exhibits handwashing technique.Monitors lab supplies to prevent shortages.Effectively instructs patients on blood drawing procedures.Never leaves the lab area unattended.Demonstrates awareness of basic charting procedures.Prompt in drawing patient blood as ordered by the provider.Adequately communicates with the nurse manager.Displays professionalism in communicating with providers.Demonstrates flexibility in job duties.Maintains prompt and regular attendance.Verify timecard at the end of each pay period.Performs related work, as assigned.Job Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited school of phlebotomy.Must demonstrate knowledge and skills in the administration of their duties in addition to performing phlebotomy techniques.Current Mississippi State Licensure and Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Assn.Knowledge of basic clinical operations.Must demonstrate skills of written and oral communication.Ability to comprehend and perform duties with minimal supervision.Able to prioritize work and accepts constructive criticism.Ability to prepare reports and follow-up as necessary.Physical and Other Requirements:

Must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen and physical assessment.Must continuously listen, visualize, and provide emotional, psychological support to patients and their families.Must frequently sit, squat, reach, use both right and left forearms for rotation, and walk.Must occasionally kneel, twist and have ability to grasp firmly, lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 10 lbs.
