Job Summary
:
The School Nurse is responsible for promoting the SEMRHI School Based Health Program (SBHP) within their assigned school district and is responsible for the nursing care provided to the students who are enrolled in the program. This includes coordinating preventative and acute care patient care, collaborating with multidisciplinary professional staffs; and reviewing and carrying out provider orders. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the staff, patients, families, and visitors of all age groups, while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
Job Responsibilities
:
Demonstrate flexibility in job duties
Effectively communicate with patients, families, staff, and providers
Promotes SEMRHI services to parents, staff, and faculty of the school district and registers students into the school-based health program
Act as a liaison between the schools and SEMRHI leadership
Coordinates the scheduling of provider visits to include physical examinations, preventative screenings, and telehealth visits
Provides care to students with special needs who are enrolled in the SEMRHI school-based health program and who have established care with a SEMRHI provider including medication administration and procedural care
Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude toward patients and staff
Effectively teach and document patient education
Adequately document required information in the medical record including complete and accurate vital signs
Adequately assess patients according to symptoms
Prompt in following provider orders
Understand and complete work queue procedures for patient call-backs, prior authorizations, and referrals
Demonstrate proficiency in performing in-house lab testing
Maintain a safe and clean working environment
Adheres to infection-control policies using universal precautions at all times and PPE as appropriate
Anticipates and prepares supplies needed for procedures to expedite patient care
Knowledgeable in operating medical equipment
Ensure operation of medical equipment, reports malfunctions, and calls in repairs as needed
Maintain prompt and regular attendance
Performs related work, as assigned
Job Requirements
:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
RN with current license in the State of Mississippi
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American heart Association
Must demonstrate knowledge and skills in the administration of their duties
Must demonstrate positive personal attributes such as professionalism, honesty, and integrity
Must demonstrate ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision
Must be able to travel to various SEMRHI locations when requested and when school is not in session.
Physical and Other Requirements
:
Must continuously listen, visualize and have dexterity and eye-hand coordination
Ability for simple grasping and speed work
Must frequently sit, squat, reach, use both right and left forearm rotation, walk and climb stairs
Must occasionally kneel, twist, have ability to grasp firmly, lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 20 lbs.
