Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Systems Administrator - Academics supports the stability, reliability, and optimization of software systems used in academic operations. This position is responsible for administering and maintaining key systems, including but not limited to Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Student Information Systems (SIS), which are essential for academic structure, curriculum management, course delivery, and student enrollment. The Systems Administrator works directly with faculty and college administrators to promote best practices and drive adoption of these systems, providing guidance and support to enhance the teaching and learning experience. The role may also involve participating in the evaluation, implementation, and integration of new software solutions to meet evolving institutional needs.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Collaborate with faculty and college administrators to support effective adoption and utilization of academic software systems.Evaluate, recommend, and implement new software solutions and system upgrades to enhance academic operations.Administer and maintain Learning Management Systems (LMS), Student Information Systems (SIS), and other critical academic applications.Configure, install, and maintain software updates, customizations, and scheduled jobs to ensure systems are up-to-date and performing optimally.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for academic systems, providing advanced support to students, faculty, and staff.Assist in integrating academic systems using APIs, scripts, and other tools to ensure seamless interoperability and data consistency.Develop and maintain technical documentation for system configurations, integrations, and operational procedures.Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve issues to ensure optimal reliability and efficiency.Coordinate with software vendors and third-party support providers to resolve issues and facilitate updates or enhancements.Coordinate with IT Department colleagues to manage system updates and server maintenance.Communicate and coordinate with management and support teams during system outages or planned changes to minimize disruptions.Perform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) administration.Knowledge of computer and server operating systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.Knowledge of web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and browser compatibility.Knowledge of database management systems and basic SQL for data queries and integrations.Knowledge of applicable IT laws, regulations, and guidelines in an academic environment.Strong organizational and project management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Strong customer service skills with the ability to de-escalate and resolve complex technical issues.Technical expertise in system administration, integration, and database management.Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical problems efficiently.Ability to plan, implement, and monitor projects, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve data discrepancies and system issues.Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administrators, and staff to develop joint solutions and support best practices.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Required:
Associate degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field.May consider any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Two years of experience in an Information Technology role.Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by the College auto insurance policy.Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Technology or related field.Two years of experience in a senior Information Technology position or direct involvement in systems administration for critical applications.Experience administering Learning Management Systems (LMS), with preference given to Canvas experience.Experience with Oracle Cloud, including system configuration and integration.Experience with Ellucian Colleague or similar Student Information Systems (SIS) in a support or administrative capacity.Demonstrated experience working in a higher education IT environment, supporting faculty and academic operations.WORKING CONDITIONS:
Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.Will be required to provide support to all location locations and will require travel.
SALARY:
Commensurate with Education and Experience (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months).
