As the Head of Communications, US Specialty and AIR, you will lead all aspects of internal and external communications for both business units.
In this role, you will coach, develop and empower a talented team of individuals responsible for the creation and execution of communication strategies addressing data and milestones for key portfolio and pipeline assets, the development and implementation of strategic, integrated experts and patient activators campaigns, as well as robust internal and external plans aligned to our global and US business priorities – positioning the US business as a leader in prevention and treatment in respiratory, anti-infectives and specialty-complex diseases areas.
As the Head of Communications for US Specialty and AIR, you will also be accountable for the overall Business Units communications and engagement plans, in partnership with members of the respective leadership teams.
All of your efforts will be in support of GSK’s Innovation, Performance and Trust pillars - helping the Company get ahead of diseases, together.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing communications leadership and counsel for the SVP, Head of US Specialty Commercial Business and SVP, Head of AIR Business.
Continuously monitoring and staying ahead of issues impacting healthcare landscape in the US and, when appropriate, conveying and reinforcing the Company’s ambition and ahead together narrative.
Engaging, empowering, developing, and elevating the talented team of communicators supporting the US Specialty and Respiratory business priorities.
Leading the internal communication strategy and plan execution to support performance, transformation and culture in the BUs in the US.
Operating and collaborating as a credible, influential thought partner on the US Commercial Communications team as well as within the US and global Specialty and AIR businesses.
Overseeing the development and implementation of above brand campaigns to extend awareness and elevate value of prevention of diseases for appropriate external customers.
In partnership with the US and global corporate media team, secure positive recognition and media coverage highlighting product and business milestones as well as the overarching strategy, vision and leadership of the company.
Leading and managing the public relations and communications agencies.
Acting as a key point of contact, collaborator and partner for all internal and external US and global stakeholders.
Other aspects of this role include:
Leadership of all communications activities across the business units, including activities to support business leaders, individual brands, business priorities, internal change initiatives and pipeline assets.
Provide counsel to the US Specialty leadership team on effective communications, issues management and strategic external activities.
Build and execute internal and external strategic communications plans supporting both businesses in the US.
Implement a structured approach to stakeholder management to ensure alignment with colleagues across key functions within GSK - including government affairs, public policy, medical and R&D as well as the global franchise.
Work collaboratively across teams to ensure US priorities are reflected in global communications programs and activities impacting the US market.
Create and manage content for internal communications for the business, including key messages, townhall support of leaders, Workplace engagement and communications related to change management (including organizational changes) and performance.
Help to manage news flow externally (and internally) to ensure “share of voice” and market leadership for both BUs.
Thoughtfully advise, prepare and coach company spokespeople who are telling the corporate story to external audiences, positioning GSK’s comprehensive portfolio and customer-focused approach within this story.
Ensure all activities are compliant with regulatory, financial and legal requirements and are conducted in accordance to GSK code of conduct, ethics and values.
Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
10+ years of communications experience.
3+ years of recent experience in product communications, change management, issues management, media relations and understanding of investor relations and/or brand marketing.
3+ years of recent experience leading people (direct line leadership).
3+ years of recent experience working in a global and/or cross functional team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree.
A minimum of 3 years recent experience working in specialty, corporate healthcare, public health and/or federal government preferred.
Experience developing and empowering high performing individuals, teams and a focus on building a talent pipeline.
Deep understanding of the US external health care environment and stakeholder landscape.
Proven track record of excellence in communications.
Comprehensive knowledge of FDA, CDC / ACIP regulatory processes.
Experience working with advocacy organizations.
Excellent judgement, high personal and business integrity.
Strong business and commercial acumen including product launches and or line extensions.
Proven strategic thinker combined with excellence in tactical implementation.
Strong strategic, analytical and proactive problem-solving acumen.
Excellent verbal and written skills, with strong commercial knowledge.
Agility and strong decision-making skills using evidence and applying judgement to balance pace, rigor and risk.
Management of individual and team performance.
Ability to manage issues and crisis, including scenario planning and activation of communications strategies.
Strong ability to manage multiple projects and brand priorities simultaneously.
Excellent organizational and project management experience to ensure timely delivery and thoughtful execution.
Experience with budget and agency management.
Ability to collaborate across matrix team to keep stakeholders informed and involved as appropriate.
