Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
ensures that surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized, and prepared for use in healthcare settings, such as hospitals and surgical centers.
Responsibilities:
Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize
surgical instruments and medical equipment following industry standards.Inspect instruments for
damage, cleanliness, and proper functioning .Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as
autoclaves
and ultrasonic cleaners.Assemble and package
surgical instrument trays
according to procedure needs.Maintain
inventory
of sterile supplies and ensure equipment is available for procedures.Follow strict
infection control protocols
to prevent contamination.Document sterilization processes and ensure
regulatory compliance
(e.g., Joint Commission, AAMI).Collaborate with operating room staff to ensure timely delivery of sterile instruments.Skills & Qualifications:
Knowledge of
sterilization techniques
and infection control practices.Attention to detail and ability to
identify faulty equipment .Familiarity with
medical instruments
and surgical procedures.Certification as a
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
is preferred.Strong organizational and communication skills.
