Senior Systems Administrator SUMMARY The Senior Systems Administrator works under the general direction of the Deputy Director of IT. The primary responsibilities of the Sr. Systems Administrator will be centered in managing the administration and maintenance of the server/application systems and security. Additional focus may include, but not limited to, deploying, configuring, and maintaining servers (physical, virtual, cloud); SANs; and data backup/replication systems. Assists the team and/or end users in resolving hardware and software issues by fielding telephone calls and email communication, diagnosing problems and performing troubleshooting activities. Works closely with the Cyber Security team. Relies on extensive knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals. Reports directly to the Deputy Director within the IT Department. Significant ingenuity and flexibility are expected. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times. 1. Provides support for a variety of enterprise solutions including, but not limited to: VMWare Virtual servers and architecture, SAN and NAS, Server and workstation operating systems, etc. 2. Ensures the integrity of data storage and backup systems. 3. Responds immediately to security or usability concerns. 4. Domain and Program User management. 5. Utilizes system health monitoring and performs scheduled system maintenance. 6. Serve as an escalation point for Service desk and other team members. 7. Responsible for day-to-day end-user/customer service and response. 8. Must be willing to work in an on-call status as required, in order to respond to mission critical problems outside normal duty hours. 9. Regular attendance is required. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum BS/BA degree from an accredited institution in computer science, technology, business, engineering or related field of study OR a verifiable combination of education and experience. 2. Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in System Administration 3. Proactive problem-solving ability. 4. Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure customer service environment 5. Excellent interpersonal communication and consensus-building skills with demonstrated ability to articulate ideas and communicate to all levels of staff, elected officials and external customers. CORE COMPETENCIES Must have a working knowledge of the operation and control of computer systems, database management, network security, TCP/IP networking and telecommunications concepts. Strong working knowledge of VMWare virtual server architecture. Experience with MS Active Directory Administration and Group Policy. Experience with Azure Active Directory. Experience with Microsoft 365 Administration. Strong knowledge and experience with SAN and NAS architectures. Experience with Backup & Disaster Recovery Administration. Experience with troubleshooting security and/or network connectivity issues. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to perform all of the duties and functions as defined in the job description for Senior Systems Administrator for the city of Fort Smith. Must have excellent communications skills in both oral and written forms. Organizational skills and close attention to details are required to successfully perform this job. The employee should be able to lift equipment ranging from small computers to large servers in the event the item must be moved or replaced.
