UI Hospitals & Clinics was the first hospital in Iowa to be designated a Magnet Hospital (2004) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the first hospital in Iowa to be re-designated three times (2008, 2013 and 2018).

Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to :

Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illnessAssesses patient health care preferences and expectationsCollaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settingsDevelops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomesImplements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family responseCollaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care planDevelops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of careImplements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautionsPercent of Time:

50 - 100%

Schedule example:

50%-100% positions available. 20-40 hours per week dependent upon percentage of position. Rotating D/E/N shifts and rotating days off. 8/12 hour shifts available. Weekend and holiday rotating assignments required. Orientation will be at 100% schedule/40 hours per week. Orientation duration may vary.

Salary:

$60,000 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate *This does not include differentials. Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort.*

Pay Differentials:

Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Inpatient differential of up to $5,000 per year

Qualifications

Education Required:

An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.Licensure/Certification Requirements:

License to practice nursing in the state of Iowa required by date of hire.Experience Requirements:

Minimum of six months ED, or critical care (ICU, telemetry inpatient) nursing experience, or c ompletion of senior internship/preceptorship or completion of at least 100 clinical hours in an ED, ICU, intermediate area (Burn Unit, Intermediate Units), or pediatric inpatient area. Completion of senior internship/preceptorship or completion of at least 100 clinic hours on an inpatient unit (med/surg or step-down unit) plus a minimum 2 years EMT experience.Demonstrated ability to effectively manage critically-ill patient population within highly functioning unit/departmentProven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary teamDemonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactionsSuccessful history in building/facilitating interpersonal relationships involving patients, families, colleagues, and student-learnersExcellent written and verbal communication skillsGeneral proficiency with computersDesired Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of ED or critical care experience (within the last 6 months)Experience in pediatric emergency nursing careExperience utilizing electronic medical recordsKnowledge of University policies and procedures
