Technology Director - Head of Azure Engineering

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Director of Cloud Engineering, responsible for Azure Services Enablement within Application & Cloud Transformation (ACT). In this strategic leadership role, you will play a pivotal role in driving our cloud adoption strategy, ensuring the optimal, secure, and compliant utilization of Azure cloud services.

As the Director of Cloud Engineering, you will be responsible for defining and executing the organization's cloud strategy, focusing primarily on Microsoft Azure. You will lead and mentor a high-performing team of cloud engineers, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and work with executive leadership to align cloud initiatives with our business objectives.

In this role, you will:
  • Contribute to definition and drive execution of the cloud strategy for the organization, with a primary focus on Azure services.
  • Provide visionary leadership and guidance to the cloud engineering team, ensuring alignment with overall company goals.
  • Manage and enable adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture and meeting non-functional requirements with each release.
  • Partner with the Product Managers/Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, and promote innovative and intelligent solutions while being a strong advocate of agile and DevOps practices.
  • Collaborate with architects to design scalable and secure cloud solutions, adhering to compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and enforce engineering practices and standards that underpin cloud governance policies and best practices.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of cloud engineers, fostering their growth and excellence.
  • Set strategic goals and objectives for the team, driving successful project delivery.
  • Oversee the deployment and management of Azure cloud services, focusing on cost optimization, performance, and security.
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize cloud resources for maximum efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and partners across CTO organization, Cyber Security, Tech Controls, and CIO organizations to ensure cloud solutions support business demands and meet regulatory and data protection standards.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align cloud initiatives with the company's strategic vision.
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with cloud service providers, vendors, and technology partners to leverage their expertise and tools effectively.
  • Stay abreast of the latest Azure cloud technologies and industry trends, making informed recommendations to drive innovation within the organization.


Required Qualifications, US:
  • 8+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
  • 4+ years of Management experience


Desired Qualifications:
  • Significant, demonstrated experience in a director-level leadership role with a track record of strategic decision-making.
  • Significant experience building and developing engineering teams that can effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the product areas/ products they support.
  • Substantial experience in the financial services industry strongly preferred.
  • Significant expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud services and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience in how to operate in a product organization.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security, compliance, and data protection.
  • Strong attention to detail and dedication to growing capabilities in Engineers.
  • Relevant certifications (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert) are a significant plus.
