What do we need?The Assistant Infant Teacher works with the Lead Infant Teacher to provide a warm, loving atmosphere and classroom based on a philosophy of trauma informed principles and goals. The Assistant Infant Teacher works with the Lead Infant Teacher works to support the academic and social development of children ages 6 weeks – 18 months and their parents at the Center of Excellence. Must be able to work and plan in a team setting, with patience, enthusiasm and respect for children, as well as parents and fellow staff. Must have working knowledge of early childhood development.
ResponsibilitiesUnderstands the impact of stress and trauma on children and their families and can implement and build the trauma-informed framework developed in the classrooms.Assists in planning, facilitating, and implementing curriculum for young children in a developmentally appropriate setting, based heavily in social-emotional development.Encourages and teaches pre-literacy, communication, cognitive, social, and developmental skills.Establishes welcoming and respectful relationships with parents.Utilizes available tools to keep parents informed about their child's progress.Observes, evaluates, and assess children's progress in collaboration with classroom teachers.Observes and reports on physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development of children, and work closely with Minneapolis Public Schools for referrals and screening.Knowledge and understanding of DHS Rule 3.Maintains appropriate program records.
