Instrumentation Technician Lead
Location: Dallas, TX
Job Overview: We are seeking a motivated Instrumentation Technician Lead to oversee and support our plant's Instrumentation Technicians. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams, develop training programs, and improve plant processes. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Oversee and perform all functions related to Instrumentation Technicians.
- Lead the Instrumentation Technician team, driving a culture of safety, teamwork, and communication.
- Manage scheduling, approve work hours, and address any technical or performance issues.
- Develop, schedule, and deliver training programs for team members.
- Foster strong interdepartmental teamwork and communication.
- Resolve scheduling conflicts and provide coverage as needed.
- Collaborate with Operator and Industrial Technician Leads to enhance line support processes.
- Maintain and update the plant's technical database and equipment.
- Create and maintain electrical standard work plans and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in maintenance planning, scheduling, after-action reviews, and root cause analysis.
- Identify and specify replacements for obsolete electrical/controls equipment.
- Plan and schedule work for Instrumentation Technicians using SAP.
- Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and quality vision systems.
- Participate in the Controls On-Call rotation for after-hours support.
- Work within a cross-departmental team to ensure line uptime and quality production.
- Respond to on-demand requests to resolve mechanical and electrical issues alongside Industrial Technicians.
- Perform planned maintenance tasks, prioritizing and communicating effectively with the shift team.
- Identify and obtain necessary parts for maintenance and repair projects.
- Conduct electrical repairs and modifications as needed, using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Install, configure, and calibrate instruments and devices, and perform electrical layouts and updates.
- Modify programs, update LOTO and SOP information, and create electrical drawings.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of professional experience with a high school diploma or GED, or 4 years with an associate degree.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with process control and PID tuning.
- HMI programming experience (Wonderware preferred).
- Background in roofing manufacturing, web process handling, or similar industries.
- Experience with machine vision systems, robotics, IIOT devices, and field service.
- Knowledge of NEC and electrical distribution.
- Split duties between office and production floor; mandatory PPE required on the production floor.
- Safety is paramount; responsibility for personal and peer safety.
- Work in a 24/7 operation, with occasional extended hours for troubleshooting and projects.
- Exposure to temperature fluctuations, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and potentially hazardous chemicals.
- Physical activities include climbing, bending, lifting (up to 25 pounds), and working in confined spaces.
