The Crash Safety Software team is seeking a Software Integration Engineer who will be at the center of new development of the safety and restraint systems on all Tesla Vehicles. You will work closely with low voltage, mechanical, crash calibration teams, and external suppliers to ensure features are designed, implemented, and validated to Tesla's high standards for safety and customer experience. You will employ sound systems engineering principles and software development skills to work through a variety of challenges from defining system architecture and requirements, implementing and testing safety-critical software, to systematically analyzing and root-causing field issues. The Crash Safety Software team develops and integrates restraint controller functionality that makes Tesla's vehicles the safest on the road. You will solve some of the most ambiguous and challenging problems in the industry while working alongside deeply knowledgeable engineers from different disciplines, in a fast-paced environment, using cutting-edge software development tools and practices. Responsibilities Work with the design and development engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure the crash safety restraint system is designed with appropriate requirements, interfaces, and interactions to achieve safety-critical operation Write vehicle level embedded firmware in C to define core embedded functionality, utilize unit-testing and software-in-the-loop infrastructure to test and validate implementation Work cross-functionally across mechanical, electrical, software development, and software validation teams to understand new component-level hardware changes and support them in software - both in manufacturing and for customer use - so that they can be seamlessly introduced to our vehicle platforms Develop and execute software integration test plans on new hardware components and software features to rapidly retire risk from new designs and provide feedback to the development teams Work with manufacturing and service to ensure the functions are rolled out and functioning properly (can include development of processes, diagnostic tools and methods, and root-cause diagnosis for product issues) Lead and participate in functional safety analysis of complex software systems Develop the safety concept, lead HARA, DFMEAs and guide software design Interface with the homologation team and understand homologation requirements for the crash safety system needed for production certifications Requirements Degree in Mechatronics, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experienceExperience with systems involving multiple networked microprocessors, sensors and actuators Experience with C/C++ Experience with Python Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and leading through influence Experience with analyzing data to develop technical insights and make decisions Ability to communicate complex technical topics across organization levels and functions Experience with safety critical systems is preferred Experience with CAN and Vector tools is preferred Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) is preferred Compensation and Benefits BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) LGBTQ+ care concierge services 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation$120,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
