Software Integration Engineer, Actuators, Chassis Systems

Tesla, Stanford, California, United States, 94305

The Chassis System Software team is looking for a software integration engineer for actuator software development. A software integration engineer is a software focused generalist who is accountable for realizing production ready software for the chassis actuators that influence vehicle motion and dynamics using brake and suspension actuators. You will work with software developers, electrical integration engineers, and hardware design engineers to arrive at actuator requirements, conceptualize a hardware-software design, and realize the system for production. You will be challenged to develop a design that meets rigorous safety and performance requirements, passes a gauntlet of testing and validation that you help design, and can be manufactured and serviced at scale. You will be prototyping the embedded system and evaluating behaviors in various development environments, including in-vehicle tests at proving grounds. You will apply physics-based analysis to drive design decisions on the vehicle electrical architecture, microcontroller selection, software architecture, and the PCB. If you are excited about working at the intersection of software, electronics, and mechanics, this is the role for you! Come join an industry-leading team that solves challenging problems that span safety-critical software, embedded systems, motor controls, electronic actuation, and vehicle dynamics. Responsibilities Lead architecture design decisions spanning software, hardware, electronics, manufacturing, and serviceArrive at sensor, actuator, and compute perform requirements Bring up software to evaluate various prototype hardware and PCBAs Develop frameworks and tests to evaluate actuator performancePerform system safety analysis like FMEAs, FTAs, to arrive at the safety requirements Work with test engineering to design validation and rollout strategies Own the sign-off of production code for over-the-air update to customer vehicles Travel to supplier around the world to evaluate teams, technologies, work on program roadmaps, and unblock hot topics for development Requirements BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experienceProficiency in C, familiarity with MISRA C and Python are a plus Knowledge of microcontroller peripherals such as ADC, GPIO, PWM and SPI Experience with reading electrical schematics and understanding circuit behavior Knowledge of microcontroller peripherals such as ADC, GPIO, PWM and SPI Experience working with sensors and digital signal processing Experience working with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) Familiarity with control loops and PID controllers Familiarity with field-oriented motor control and permanent magnet motors a plus Knowledge of version control (Git) and continuous integration (Jenkins) are a plus One of the following: Experience with power electronics, MOSFETs, gate drivers, etc. Experience with vehicle chassis physics Experience with real-time operating system development Experience with electro-mechanical systems Compensation and Benefits BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) LGBTQ+ care concierge services 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation$104,000 - $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
