Description

Responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments.

Operates processing equipment.

Proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly and will be aware of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate in correlation with the devices that are to be processed.

Principal Duties and Essential Functions:

Decontaminates surgical instruments according to manufacturer's instructions or advised by the department supervisor or manager. Will operate decontamination equipment

Inspects instruments after decontamination ensuring all items are clean, intact, functional, and accounted for

Assembles trays in a manner that ensures devise sterility as well as presenting a tray that is easy for the end user to access for use. Uses count sheets to ensure trays are assembled accurately for all trays

Interfaces with department tracking system for all functions of processing

Packages or containerizes instruments sets according to manufacturer's guidelines and standards

Loads sterilizer carts in a way to ensure packaged items are not punctured or compromised, loads containers and wrapped goods as recommended

Runs daily sterilizer tests on all sterilizers. Operates sterilizers according to manufacturer's instruction ensuring every load biological monitoring

Documents all load contents, interfaces load to tracking system, loads cycle confirming correct parameters, monitors sterilizer to tracking system, records all pertinent information

Unloads sterilizers ensuring items are not compromised and stores in correct location according to tracking system storage locations

Responsible for cleanliness of department and all processing equipment

Education:

High School Graduate or Equivalent Required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

CRCST, CBSPDT, CIS preferred.

Required Work Experience:

3 years of Sterile Processing experience required.

40hr 5x 8hr shifts 3p-11:30p rotating weekends/ holidays as needed.

On call 5+ years experience required. Perform the disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and other equipment. Leak test, evaluate, clean/disinfect, and process flexible endoscopes.

Inspect instrumentation for cleanliness and proper functioning. Assemble surgical instruments and kits utilizing kit assembly information.

Package, wrap, and prepare kit/instrument loads for sterilization. Load, operate, monitor, and complete d

ocumentation for all decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and monitoring equipment. Perform and document all chemical, mechanical, and biological monitoring of sterilizers and other equipment.

Respond effectively to emergency case requirements of the surgical team and other departments. Assess instruments, components, and supplies for adequate levels required for the assembly of kits, and request necessary replacements in a timely manner. Pick supplies and/or instruments for surgical cases utilizing surgeon specific preference cards. Stock adult, pediatric and neonate code carts, intubation boxes.

Function independently in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor. Utilize a variety of computer systems. Existing knowledge of EPIC and CSIQ/SPM is preferred. Assist in the training of new staff and volunteers. May be required to rotate between the main SPD, GI, OSC departments as needed. Performs all other duties as needed
