Quality Control Inspector

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for the inspection of fabricated products for compliance to HBW Quality Control System, ASME BPV and NBBPVI codes, customer specifications and fabrication documents. Inspections may be carried out in production shops, field sites and vendor facilities. Welding terminology and welding processes knowledge is required to interpret and verify proper use of welding techniques in the fabrication environment, Nondestructive methods of inspection, as required by code and specifications, are used to verify compliance. Competence in the use of tools such as calipers, micrometers, test gauges, and ultrasound thickness and hardness measuring devices is required.

Essential functions:

Incoming inspection of materials ordered for jobs, documenting materials meet the requisition, specification, drawings and HBW QC requirements.In process inspection of parts fabricated in shop, including fit-up of and sub-assemblies, for dimensional accuracy and proper part geometry.Inspection of welded assemblies for use of proper weld process, consumable material and weld size and type in accordance with approved documents.Nondestructive testing of parts and products using VT, UT, and other testing methods as specified by controlling documents.Record and document NDE testing results on proper QC forms, travelers or other specified documents.Verification of NDT qualification and testing performed by sub-contractors.Maintain records of NDT, (UT, MT, PT, RT), for sub-contractor testing and sub-contractor qualifications.Inspection of product finish and marking requirements, tags, item/part and job numbers are applied as required by approved documents.Verification of welder qualifications.Documentation of product inspection milestones on QC Documents, i.e. travelers.Communicate and interface with Authorized Inspector, customer Inspectors, and 3rd party inspectors for assigned jobs.Prepare Manufactures ASME Code Data Reports, NBIC Repair Certifications for documentation of work completed.Maintain job file for each assigned job.Create QC Data Packages for submission to customer at completion of job.Qualify welders in accordance with HBW QC System and applicable ASME Codes and prepare Welder Qualification Certifications.Prepare and qualify Welding Procedures in accordance with ASME BPV Code.Prepare and process material, and sub-contractor service, requisitions for assigned jobs.Maintain required calibration certification for QC tools used in inspection duties.Prepare and maintain written inspector diary on a daily basis.Pro-actively participate in continuous process and methodology improvement.Perform all duties in a safe and conscientious manner with a professional attitude.Other duties as assigned by manager.Basic Requirements:

Education:

High School Diploma or GEDAssociate degree in Welding Technology or associated technical field or CWI with 8 years equivalent experience.Certified Welding Inspector, AWS-CWI, certification, current. (Not required if degreed see above).Experience:

Minimum 5 yrs experienceAssociated Experience Considered:

ASNT Level II or III in nondestructive testing, UT, PT, MT, or RTEquivalent engineering experience in ASME code fabrication design.Experience as an ASME Code welder is a plus.Knowledge and Skills:

Basic reading, writing, and math skills, (arithmetic, geometry, trig.), required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.Knowledge of Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel,) Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills.Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.Working knowledge in the use of micrometers, calipers and other QC tools.Working Knowledge of AWS welding terminology and welding symbols.Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and technical specifications.Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Quality Control Inspector in an ASME Code fabrication shop.Working Conditions and Hazards:

Working conditions are normal for a production shop and field site environment. Requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to traverse production shop, field site, environments. Typical PPE would include steel toed work boots, safety glasses, ear plugs, hard hat and protective clothing. Confined space and elevated work in harness would be required, (Safety training provided) Routine lifting of up to 50 pounds.
