Minimum Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED; at least 1 year but less than 3 years of experience in high volume medical scheduling; at least 1 year but less than 3 years of medical office experience; knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance guidelines.Preferred Education and Experience
Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.Two or more years of experience with high-volume patient scheduling in an ENT and/or Audiology practice is preferredStrong patient relations skills requiredStrong personal computer literacy is required including working knowledge of relevant software packages such as Microsoft Office-Excel and Word.Familiarity and experience with practice management and medical software programs/schedulingAbility to work accurately with data, including checks for integrity, summation, and effective communication to internal and external constituentsOrganized and effective at dealing with several activities simultaneously; strong organizational skills required; ability to prioritizeSelf-starter with the ability to work independentlyDemonstrates the highest degree of accuracy and readability for all work and team projectsProtects patient health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibility will be scheduling patient appointmentsHigh volume scheduling for patient appointments in a medical practiceKnowledge of insurance guidelines for commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payersKnowledge of prior authorization and PCP referral processExperience with patient financials; past due balances; copay and deductible amounts, and insurance pending balancesResearch all scheduled appointments for accurate demographic and insurance information as well as accurate authorization informationActs as liaison between the patient, clinicians, and business office staffProvide support to front office staff to support the patient registration/patient check-out processProvide clerical support as neededOther duties as assigned
