We are the ideal match for the innovator, the out-of-the-box, strategic thinker who understands the value of social impact.General DescriptionThe Vice President, Events is responsible for the strategic oversight, planning, and execution of Blue Star Families’ national portfolio of large-scale, high-profile and regional events. This role ensures that both in-person and virtual events align with the organization’s mission to support military families, while fostering engagement with key stakeholders, including military leaders, government officials, corporate partners, and the broader community. The Vice President develops transformative event strategies, manages budgets, and creates processes and procedures to support event execution organization-wide. This role collaborates across departments to shape strategic decisions that drive the events team and national event planning while maintaining and nurturing relationships with critical partners to elevate the organization’s outreach and impact. Ideal candidate has an active, Washington, DC-based network of senior military and government officials/staff, community leaders, corporate/individual donors, and top tier venue managers.Key Job FunctionsDevelops and leads the event experience, strategy, planning, coordination, and execution of high-profile national events, including guest lists and invitations,, ensuring each event is flawlessly executed from concept to completion.Builds and maintains strategic partnerships and engagement with top-tier event partners and stakeholders, capturing their vision and managing expectations to deliver unforgettable experiences.Guides the strategic development of innovative digital and print materials that highlight Blue Star Families’ mission and values, delivering memorable event experiences.Manages and motivates the Events Team, ensuring their work aligns with the organization’s mission and fostering the development of new, creative ideas.Manages the planning and execution of special guest/VIP invitations, including overseeing ethics and security protocols.Collaborates within the EVP, Communications and Brand Marketing to shape the strategic vision of events, manage vendors, and track all budgetary and expense needs to ensure seamless execution.Oversees procurement of donated goods and services (e.g., food, gifts in kind, photography) for events, working closely with Brand Partnership and Development teams to enhance event offerings.Identifies and evaluates opportunities for new collaborations, developing strategic proposals for senior leadership to review and explore.Anticipates and resolves operational challenges associated with event planning and execution, working closely with senior leadership to develop strategic solutions that enhance the event experience.Oversees the development of comprehensive invitation lists, collaborating across departments to ensure key individuals are engaged in strategic events.Partners with the Development department to identify opportunities for strategic donor engagement and stewardship through high-impact events.Provides input into the strategic development of the event registration process, including attendee experience, website content, registration, social media engagement, and email marketing.Develops and manages project and budget management processes to ensure the efficient and strategic execution of all event plans.Prepares post-event and budget reports, providing insights and strategic recommendations to the leadership team to continually enhance event strategy.Coordinates with the Technology team to track event analytics and metrics, using data to drive strategic improvements for future events.Oversees contract negotiations with outside vendors and contractors to secure high-quality services for events.Provides strategic guidance for high-profile Chapter-based events and Brand Partnership events to ensure consistent, high-caliber event experiences across the organization.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Experience, Skills & BackgroundBachelor’s degree in a related field, or commensurate experience10+ years experience coordinating and managing large-scale in-person events in the Washington DC area, ranging in size up to 500+ attendees5+ years experience managing an events teamExperience coordinating and managing virtual events, including webinars, town halls, etc.Ability to quickly and effectively gather information, and organize information for effective presentation in publications and other mediaAbility to produce high-quality work on deadline; comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentFlexibility with work schedule in support of deadlines and eventsCommitment to the highest standards of professionalismOut of town, overnight travel requiredMay be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to carry out key job functionsAbility to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.Desired Experience, Skills & BackgroundExperience with membership-driven organizationsFamiliarity with the military communityExperience leading high-profile event production for top government, military, and corporate leadersMore About Blue Star Families
