Role Description

The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is responsible for designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.We're hiring a hands-on Staff Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise in materials, platings, and seals to join our team. In this role, you will lead efforts related to materials selection, design, and reliability of our systems' critical seals and dissimilar material interfaces. Our ideal team member will have a broad, interdisciplinary background in mechanical design, materials science, and manufacturing. The focus of this role will be on both material characterization and selection, but also the design, manufacturability, and reliability of solutions.This is an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling our multi-day energy storage system at Form and contributing to a sustainable future!What you'll do:

Guide material characterization and selection of engineering materials within the mechanical design team.Design, prototype, and test critical seals and dissimilar material interfaces present in our system to ensure performance and long-term reliability.Ensure materials and designs are performant across product life in the presence of thermal, electrical, chemical, and physical exposures.Lead the design team's root cause analysis of materials compatibility failures.What you'll bring:

Degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 7+ years of industry experience.Expertise in material selection with a broad understanding of plastics, metals, platings & coatings and their effects on seal performance.Experience in design for injection molding and insert/overmolding.Experience in failure analysis and materials testing and characterization.Experience designing feature enabling solutions that employ novel materials.Cross-functional experience implementing manufacturable solutions.Prior experience in Energy Storage, Battery Systems, Renewable Energy, or Utility industry is a plus.#LI-Onsite#LI-AB1Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy's culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that.
