Role Description
The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is focused on designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.
We're hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our Cell Engineering Design team in Berkeley, CA. This team is focused on the mechanical design of key components and assemblies in our iron-air battery cell and will work in close collaboration with module and systems-level mechanical engineering teams. In this position, you will manage a team of engineers and coordinate build support activities on pilot manufacturing lines in Berkeley, CA, and Weirton, WV. What you'll do:
Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical engineers that deliver on key objectives toward advancing Form Energy's cell product development effortsLead the mechanical design and development of Form Energy's iron-air battery cellsManage cell mechanical design and program risks and effectively communicate actions cross-functionally and with leadershipPartner with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, DFM, DFA, cost, reliabilityCollaborate with an interdisciplinary team of battery, chemical, and electrical engineers to define battery cell design requirementsWhat you'll bring:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; with 10+ years of industry experienceDemonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reportsWell-developed experience designing mechanical components and assemblies composed of low-cost metal and plastic for high-volume manufacture in a hardware product development companyExpert in new product development for high-volume manufacturingExperience implementing design for manufacturing & assembly (DFMA) principlesExperience in batteries, energy storage, or other high power products is a plusStrong technical communication skills, especially with external parties and across internal functional teams
