Role Description:

Form Energy is hiring a senior electrical engineer to join our Systems Engineering, BMS Electronics team in our Berkeley, CA facility. This role will contribute to developing our battery module electronics and control systems for our energy storage system.

This new position is part of a growing team. It will ideally suit someone with expertise in 2D schematics, engineering documentation, and 3D CAD modeling for PCB design and layout, component selection, functional safety, and design validation testing for high-voltage electronics. Comfortable diving deep into technical challenges, a willingness to roll up one's sleeves and be hands-on prototyping, working with compliance standards, taking a product into high-volume manufacturing ramp, conducting root cause failure analysis, and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams is critical.

What you'll do:

Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to develop a battery management system (BMS) that coordinates functionality and safety responses throughout the systemOwnership of schematic capture, layout design, and release for various PCBAsParticipate in sensor selection and connector interface definitionPerform detailed engineering analysis such as circuit power draw, voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal load, cycle life, and component level FMEAsIncorporate EMC regulatory requirements into design approachesDevelop and support the execution of test plans to validate electronics and control systems for lab bring-up and field environmentsEngage with battery module and system design engineers to build Form's first-generation multi-day storage productSupport the new product introduction and manufacturing scale-up activities, including quality inspection requirements, root cause failure analysis, and test equipment developmentWhat you'll bring:

Degree in electronics or electrical engineering or related field, and 3 to 7 years of industry experience in product developmentBackground in electronics development, fabrication, and assembly processes, and good analytical problem-solving skillsExperience using and debugging industrial controls and serial communication protocolsExperience with EMC/EMI sensitive design and analysisFoundational knowledge of embedded systems, high voltage isolation, and power conversion switching circuit designsHighly desired - prior energy storage, battery systems, or renewable energy industry experience
