An elite AM 100 law firm are seeking an experienced eDiscovery Counsel to join their esteemed D.C office. In this pivotal role, you will focus on the advisory side of the (EDRM) , guiding clients through complex eDiscovery processes while ensuring compliance with evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
As a member of our cutting-edge eDiscovery team , you will provide strategic counsel to clients on best practices for data preservation, legal holds, and the defensible management of electronically stored information (ESI). Working closely with high-profile corporate clients and litigation teams, you will play a key role in managing risk and developing tailored eDiscovery strategies that align with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a trusted advisor on all aspects of the EDRM , with a focus on Information Governance, Identification, Preservation, and Collection of ESI.
Advise clients on legal hold policies , data governance, and the strategic management of ESI to ensure defensibility in litigation and regulatory matters.
Provide expert guidance on cross-border data privacy laws and international data transfers , including GDPR compliance and related privacy concerns.
Collaborate with litigation and corporate teams to design and implement best practices for data retention, risk management, and compliance in discovery-related matters.
Lead efforts to ensure clients are discovery-ready by advising on proactive data management solutions that meet legal and regulatory requirements.
Oversee relationships with IT, data custodians, and third-party vendors to streamline and optimize the eDiscovery process.
Conduct risk assessments related to data preservation, collection, and review, recommending solutions to reduce costs and exposure.
Stay current on the latest developments in eDiscovery technology and legal regulations, providing up-to-date advice to both internal teams and clients.
Skills & Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in Washington D.C, or eligibility for admission.
Substantial experience in eDiscovery, with a strong focus on advisory services in the early stages of the EDRM (Information Governance, Preservation, and Collection).
Expertise in legal hold management , data protection laws , and handling cross-border eDiscovery and privacy issues .
Deep knowledge of eDiscovery tools and technologies (e.g., Relativity, Nuix, OpenText), and experience working with technology teams to implement effective solutions.
Demonstrated ability to advise on and manage complex eDiscovery projects in high-stakes litigation or regulatory investigations.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical eDiscovery processes to non-technical legal and compliance professionals.
Proven track record in managing client relationships and delivering exceptional advisory services to Fortune 500 companies or large institutional clients.
