The Position
We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.Who we are:The Department of Translational Medicine leads biomarker discovery and development efforts for programs in Early Stage Research through Phase III clinical trials for the disease areas of Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (TM-OMNI). Biomarker scientists within our department are responsible for conducting translational research to study the molecular and cellular pathways driving disease to generate novel target and biomarker approaches. We develop biomarker strategies, design and implement biomarker assays, and interpret biomarker results.The Respiratory group in Translational Medicine at Genentech is seeking a highly talented, driven and motivated lab-based Scientist to support our research and clinical development activities in immunology and respiratory diseases. Our department is responsible for defining and executing biomarker strategies in our clinical trials, and using human clinical translational research to generate novel target and biomarker approaches.The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and collaboratively supporting clinical development and translational research for immunology and respiratory diseases, providing scientific and technical expertise and generating high quality data through rigorous scientific approaches. Excellent communication skills will facilitate fruitful and open collaborations with other functions including Research, Bioanalytical Assay Science, Diagnostics, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical, Biostatistics and Computational Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to present their work to the department, cross-functional teams, internal review committees and external conferences.The Opportunity:As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will be:Discovering and evaluating candidate targets or biomarkersDeveloping and implementing biomarker assays in preclinical models and clinical trialsEvaluating new technologies as potential novel biomarker assay platformsAnalyzing large data sets using available analysis toolsDocumenting experiments and studies in lab notebookCommunicating findings to their manager and key stakeholdersCoordinating interdepartmental and/or external collaborationsPerforming other duties as assignedWho you are:Strong candidates for this position will meet most of the following requirements:BS, MS, and/or Ph.D. in respiratory, immunology, pharmacology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field.At least 3 years of relevant experience in immunology, inflammation and/or respiratory disease research, or related diseases.Familiarity with a broad spectrum of laboratory techniques, such as cell culture, ELISA, qPCR, cytokine profiling, molecular biology, transcriptomics, LC/MS, flow cytometry, NGS, iPSC/organoid or other complex in vitro culture systems, and/or human whole blood assays, and handling human / preclinical samples is required.Preferred candidates will have experience with bioinformatics analysis of laboratory-generated data, including high-dimensional data such as genome sequencing, scRNA-seq, TCR-seq, CITE-seq or spatial transcriptomics.Able to independently design, execute and interpret experiments in a lab-based setting.Excellent written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by publication or internal/external presentations and a seminar during candidacy.Excellent time management skills and willing to work in a collaborative environment.Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $100,000-$185,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
