The Position

Scientist 3 – Translational Medicine, OncologyWe advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. The Translational Medicine Department at Genentech has a vision to transform patient care through borderless, innovative, and rigorous translational science that will catalyze the development of new medicines, accelerate drug development timelines, and discover new therapeutic strategies. To fulfill our vision, we recruit talented and highly motivated scientists to develop and execute innovative biomarker and diagnostic strategies to drive clinical development through all phases of the portfolio, and conduct foundational disease-oriented translational research to maximize our scientific and clinical impact. We are seeking a dedicated and independent Scientist 3 to lead translational research and discovery efforts in oncology. The Opportunity:This is a hands-on, wet lab (75%) and dry lab (25%) hybrid position that requires close collaboration with colleagues and departments across multiple functions in Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED), including Research Oncology, Computational Sciences, Functional Genomics, Cellular & Tissue Genomics, NGS, and Proteomics. As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will lead efforts in:Designing and executing in vitro and in vivo experiments to validate biological and therapeutic hypotheses derived from clinical biomarker data, real-world data, and other sources; performing computational analysis of large scale multi-modal data generated from in vitro and in vivo experiments, as well as patient samples; elucidating mechanisms of action to enable in-depth understanding of fundamental disease biology.

Collaborating with subject matter experts from across gRED to synthesize, integrate, and interpret experimental and computational findings to inform decision-making on key projects and programs.

Identifying, evaluating, and validating novel cell-based and biochemical assays, genome engineering techniques, and multi-omic assays (including, but not limited to, single cell platforms) that enable hypotheses testing at scale.

Independently build new connections and collaborations with colleagues across diverse functional areas to enable access to new technologies, methods, or data to drive translational innovation.

Who You Are:You hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Cancer Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, Immunology, or related disciplines; 6+ years of relevant work experience is required for BS candidates, 4+ years of experience is required for MS candidates, no additional experience is required for PhD candidates.
