About this roleDescription and Position OverviewBlackRock's Compliance Department protects BlackRock’s reputation and provides advice to the business focused on ensuring the protection of our clients’ best interests. The department operates in a dynamic environment with the team focused on understanding evolving business strategy, as well as advising on the impact of regulation in our business, with the objective of:Actively participating in business decisions to champion our clients’ interests and assist the business in translating Compliance into their daily work and decision making;Putting client interests at the center of everything we do;Cultivating and enhancing BlackRock’s Compliance culture;Providing thought leadership on the impact and implementation of regulation to our business and to the market; andDeveloping and fostering excellence within the Compliance team.In conjunction with Legal, the Compliance team oversees BlackRock’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations and is responsible for, among other things, establishing Legal and Compliance policies and procedures that meet applicable regulatory requirements and testing the effectiveness of those policies and procedures, overseeing regulatory matters, and providing Compliance training.We are seeking a seasoned Compliance professional to play a leading role in the BlackRock Institutional Trust Company, N.A. (“BTC”) compliance team which contributes to the maintenance and enhancement of the BTC compliance program. This role may also manage engagements with the BTC’s primary regulator, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (“OCC”).Key Job ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will work in a team which oversees BTC’s compliance with the requirements of OCC regulation, SEC rules, ERISA requirements, other applicable laws and regulations and applicable BlackRock policies. The successful candidate will also:Coordinate BlackRock’s meeting with U.S. federal regulators including driving the preparation and delivery of reports to regulators.Track and understand the changing regulatory environment to ensure policies, procedures and key stakeholders are kept current with relevant changes.Conduct and oversee compliance testing of the operative effectiveness of policies and procedures.Review, draft and make recommendations to enhance relevant compliance policies and procedures.Closely coordinate with multiple levels of BlackRock management and governance forums to help address regulatory requirements on a timely basis.Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and deadlines.Special projects as required.Skills/Requirements:Demonstrate a proficiency about various areas of financial regulation and/or willingness to learn about the operations of a large asset management company.Investment management compliance or direct OCC, SEC, or ERISA regulatory experience is beneficial.5 plus years of legal, regulatory, compliance or operational experience at a financial institution is preferred. Relevant experience at a large law firm or a federal regulator will also be considered.BS/BA required; JD or other relevant graduate degree is a plus.Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, project management, presentation, inter-personal and relationship building skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills across time zones and audiences, including communicating directly with senior stakeholders.Ability to make decisions and exercise discretionary authority necessary to successfully perform job duties.Candidate must be a team player with excellent inter-personal skills who is approachable and engaging in multiple settings.Proficient use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and have an interest in applying and being a student of technology. Prior experience or knowledge of BlackRock’s Aladdin Platform and other technology tools or queries are beneficial.Salary and BenefitsFor California only the salary range for this position is $125,000 - $173,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.Our hybrid work modelBlackRock’s hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 4 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day a week.
