The mission of the
Georgetown Climate Center
is to advance ambitious and equitable government responses to the climate crisis in the U.S. at the national, state, and local levels. In the United States, responding to the climate crisis depends on effective partnerships among federal, state, and local governments. When different levels of government collaborate and communicate with each other when they are developing climate and energy policies, they can go farther and faster in achieving durable, equitable, ambitious climate action for the health and welfare of the people across the country.
Responsibilities:
Marketing Strategy and Direct OutreachDevelop and manage the Center's online, social media, and marketing growth strategies in collaboration with the communications director.Implement direct outreach strategies, including drafting and distributing email news updates to its core audiences.Conduct outreach to expand the Georgetown Climate Center's reach and visibility.Coordinate approval and dissemination for communication materials such as blogs, newsletters, emails, and videos.
Online Content Creation, Social Media Growth, and Website DevelopmentWork with Georgetown Climate Center staff to manage content development for the Center's websites, including georgetownclimate.org and adaptationclearinghouse.org.Make recommendations to GCC leadership regarding social media strategy and content to grow awareness of the Georgetown Climate Center, its message, and its brand on social media.Maintain all Georgetown Climate Center social media accounts.Maintain and manage the technical development of web-based tools that deliver climate, clean energy, and clean transportation data in coordination with outside vendors and Georgetown Climate Center staff.
Media Monitoring and DevelopmentMonitor press coverage and cultivate key media contacts.Review climate, clean energy, and clean transportation news, producing daily news clips for Georgetown Climate Center stakeholders.Track trends in media coverage of issues important to GCC and identify opportunities to expand GCC's visibility and influence through media coverage.Contribute to drafting of grant proposals and reports to existing and potential funders.
AdministrationMaintain Georgetown Climate Center email lists for marketing.Supervise the work of the communications research assistant and contribute to their professional development.Manage the selection of communications RAs each semester.Maintain a database of media mentions, public appearances by Georgetown Climate Center staff at conferences, and other communication metrics for internal tracking and external grant reporting.Keep all Georgetown Climate Center earned media entries up to date on the website.
Communications SupportIn collaboration with the communications director, research and administer tools (such as Slack, Asana, or Clockwise) to facilitate efficient and effective internal communication and project management.Provide basic design and layout assistance for social media content, event graphics, outreach materials, and Georgetown Climate Center reports and other materials as needed.Conduct research to support Georgetown Climate Center message development as directed by senior staff.Provide communications and logistical support for Georgetown Climate Center conferences, dialogues, and events.
Work Interactions
The communications manager will report to the Georgetown Climate Center's Director of Communications and will work with the Georgetown Climate Center staff in generating and implementing ideas to advance the Center's mission through communications content and outreach strategies. In addition to reporting to the Communications Director, this position will regularly engage with members of the Georgetown Climate Center's senior management team and with partners at Georgetown and externally. The Communications manager will supervise student interns and Research Assistants. The Georgetown Climate Center works directly with states, local governments, and federal agencies to develop policies that promote action on climate resilience, clean energy, and clean transportation. This unique role requires communications staff to possess strong professional judgment and the ability to carefully craft external messages that are informative and engaging while elevating the Georgetown Climate Center's brand and its nonpartisan policy and academic credentials.
Requirements and QualificationsB.A. degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.At least 5 years of professional experience in strategic communications in an NGO, higher education, or government organization.Demonstrated interest and understanding of climate change adaptation and mitigation policy at the state and federal levels.Strong writing, editing, and project management skills.Professional experience that includes media monitoring and engagement, online and social media strategy and content development, graphic design, and website strategy, maintenance, and development is strongly preferred.Professional experience that includes interaction with policymakers, event planning and management, and supervision of student research assistants preferred.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:$47,586.00 - $87,558.13
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
