Job Title: Cloud Architecture Director
Job Summary:
The Cloud Architecture Director will lead and oversee all aspects of the organization's cloud systems and strategy, ensuring alignment with the broader NIH objectives. This role requires strategic vision and deep technical expertise to guide the design, development, and optimization of cloud services, including Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) platforms. The Director will work with cross-functional teams to create roadmaps, guide cloud migrations, and ensure the secure, efficient operation of cloud systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct cloud strategy and development initiatives, aligning them with NIH's short-term and long-term objectives. Make architectural recommendations and oversee implementation to ensure NIH keeps pace with cloud technology advancements.
Work closely with stakeholders and vendors to define cloud architecture requirements, ensure successful product launches, and provide continuous improvement.
Establish standards, processes, and audit controls to monitor and optimize the performance and security of NIH’s cloud infrastructure.
Provide top-level strategic guidance for cloud services, data management, and cloud security in collaboration with federal and support contractors.
Oversee architecture support for NIH’s scientific initiatives, including data science, workflow automation, and the development of cloud platforms.
Ensure cloud systems adhere to security requirements, including NIST standards, and support Assessment & Authorization (A&A) efforts to maintain security controls and documentation.
Spearhead the development and implementation of automation modules, including self-service portals, and ensure seamless integration of cloud services.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology).
At least 5+ years of managerial experience in cloud architecture or a related field, with a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and security.
Extensive experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-based application architectures.
Strong knowledge of NIST, FISMA, and other government-wide security standards and regulations.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage vendor relationships.
Excellent communication skills and ability to develop executive-level presentations and reports.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with cloud migrations from on-premise to cloud environments.
Knowledge of scientific computing, data analysis, and workflow automation.
PMP or similar certification is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
The projected compensation range for this position is $228,750 to $285,600 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $255,000. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
