Job Title – Database Administrator (Mid)Job Summary - The Database Administrator (Mid) will manage and maintain the company’s databases of medium to high complexity, focusing on optimization, performance, and security. This position involves monitoring and resolving database performance and capacity issues, ensuring data integrity, and performing backups and recovery operations. The Database Administrator will work in collaboration with cloud architecture teams, assisting in the migration of data from on-premise systems to cloud-based platforms and ensuring alignment with NIH Cloud Services’ strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and maintain databases, optimizing configurations, performance, and access.
Perform data migration from on-premise to cloud systems and between Cloud Service Providers (CSPs), ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity.
Resolve database performance and capacity issues to maintain operational efficiency.
Perform database backup and recovery procedures and ensure system availability.
Collaborate with cloud architecture teams to align database management with NIH’s Cloud Services' goals and objectives.
Implement and maintain cloud security protocols, ensuring adherence to NIST, FIPS, OMB, and NIH security standards.
Provide support in cloud strategy planning, data management, and cloud architecture assessments.
Prepare and maintain database documentation, policies, procedures, and best practices.
Contribute to the development and improvement of cloud data management and migration strategies.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
2-4 years of experience in database administration, cloud services, and data migration.
Experience with automated cloud services and GitHub integration.
Familiarity with NIH’s STRIDES initiatives and federal data management policies.
Certifications in cloud computing or database management.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud database services.
Knowledge of cloud security protocols, including compliance with NIST and federal security guidelines.
Experience in database performance tuning, recovery, backup, and cloud migration.
Strong understanding of SQL and other database query languages.
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and provide input on cloud architecture and database management strategies.
Excellent documentation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Compensation and BenefitsThe projected compensation range for this position is $94,275 to $147,000 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $111,000. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
