Database Administrator, Junior

Job Summary:

The Database Administrator, Junior is responsible for maintaining and administering the company's databases and data warehouses, including managing database access, configurations, performance, and capacity. The role involves performing routine database recovery and back-ups and may contribute to capacity planning and minor development work. Work is typically closely supervised, making this an ideal position for early-career professionals looking to grow their expertise in cloud-based database management.

Key Responsibilities

Administer and maintain company databases and data warehouses, ensuring optimal performance.

Monitor and adjust database configurations to enhance performance and capacity.

Troubleshoot and resolve database-related performance issues and errors.

Perform routine database back-ups and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.

Implement disaster recovery plans and ensure data is protected against unauthorized access and loss.

Monitor and manage database access, ensuring security policies and procedures are followed.

Assist with setting up user roles and access permissions based on organizational policies.

Assist with data migration from on-premise systems to cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.).

Support ongoing improvements in cloud architecture, database management, and security measures in line with the organization's cloud strategy.

Collaborate with the security team to ensure databases are compliant with all relevant security policies and federal guidelines (NIST, FIPS, OMB circulars).

Assist in maintaining the necessary security documentation for cloud services databases, ensuring continuous compliance.

Provide support in the strategic alignment of cloud services for long-term and short-term organizational goals.

Assist with data management strategies, database migration, and cloud integration efforts.

Assist in database capacity planning, ensuring databases can scale effectively with business growth.

Monitor resource usage and provide recommendations for improvements to optimize storage and performance.

Develop and maintain documentation for database management, including configuration records, user guides, and security protocols.

QualificationsEducation:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

0-2 years of related experience in database administration, cloud services, or IT support.

Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.

Basic understanding of database structures, SQL, and database management tools.

Skills:

Proficient in database management systems (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc.).

Basic knowledge of cloud services and cloud security principles.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Compensation and BenefitsThe projected compensation range for this position is $79,500 to $105,500 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $89,000. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
