Job Title - System Administrator II
Job Summary - The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining and supporting the integrity of the operating system environment and various computer systems. This role involves performing systems maintenance tasks to promote system uptime and efficient performance, including system backups, recovery, and file maintenance. The administrator also acquires, installs, and tests system software upgrades, computer components, and resolves technical issues, ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems.
As part of Cloud Services support, the System Administrator will assist in strategic cloud architecture planning, data migration, and implementation of security measures in accordance with NIH's cloud initiatives. This includes work on short-term and long-term projects to align technical solutions with the Government Customer's Cloud Services goals. The role involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring NIH's cloud infrastructure and services are secure, efficient, and future-proofed.
Key Responsibilities
System Maintenance: Perform daily system maintenance tasks, such as backups, system recovery, and file maintenance to ensure the reliability and performance of operating systems and various IT systems.Software & Hardware Configuration: Acquire, install, and test system software and hardware components, ensuring all configurations are optimized for system performance and security.Technical Support: Resolve system-related technical issues and provide support for users. Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems to maintain seamless system operations.Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation of IT infrastructure, system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and system upgrades.Cloud Architecture Support: Contribute to cloud architecture strategy by assisting in defining technical requirements for Cloud Service Providers in line with NIH objectives. Provide input for developing roadmaps for cloud initiatives and aligning them with NIH's strategic goals.Data Management & Migration: Support data management and migration activities from on-premise to cloud environments or between different Cloud Service Providers (CSPs). Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth data transitions.Security Operations: Implement and maintain cloud security measures, ensure compliance with NIST, FIPS, OMB, HHS, and NIH policies, and assist in cloud security documentation and incident management.Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.Experience: 2-4 years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar role, with exposure to complex system environments and cloud technologies.Certification:Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator AssociateITIL FoundationTechnical Skills:Proficiency in system administration tasks, including backups, recovery, file management, and hardware/software installation.Experience with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).Understanding of cloud architecture, data migration, and security protocols.Knowledge of network infrastructure, system configurations, and troubleshooting.Experience with automation tools such as GitHub API, Azure AD, and cloud modules.Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication, ability to work in a team environment, and a detail-oriented approach.
The projected compensation range for this position is $87,525 to $121,200 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $102,900. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
