To perform routine and specialized examinations in UltrasoundAdapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic resultsPrepare patients for examinationsRequires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologistPerforms ultrasound procedures ensuring an accurate and complete examination within guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of Medical Imaging to assigned patients of all agesExhibits competency in performing ultrasound proceduresImages required views demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathologyKnowledgeable of catheters, biopsy instruments and sterile trays and prepares these items as necessaryObtains accurate histories and explains rationale for procedure to patients/familiesEnhances image quality through the use of appropriate transducers and machine settingsEvaluates the finished images to ensure diagnostic exams are being submitted to the radiologistsMaintains quality care throughout the procedureAssess the abdominal arterial & venous system using color imagingMaintains working knowledge of equipment in order to function in all areas of ultrasoundTechnically knowledgeable of equipment operation including hardware and softwarePerforms reasonable trouble shootingMaintains clean work area, checks and stocks all supplies in their specific area and verifies pertinent accessories assigned to that roomAble to document area of concernSet up trays with sterile field for radiologistAssists radiologist with biopsyOrders labs and pathology tests under the direction of a radiologistPerforms support functions of the Medical Imaging department to ensure patient expectations and needs are metAssumes personal responsibility for training fellow technologists/studentsPromptly processes images and paperwork to ensure timely turn around in providing a report to the physician's officeMaintains and coordinates patient flow to ensure efficient and expedient patient carePromptly and accurately enters patient information into HIS system to ensure efficient patient throughputMaintenance of the QA, QC, QI programsShares knowledge and guides fellow technologists/students with proper department protocol and proceduresDisplays a professional attitude in the area toward fellow technologists/students, fostering mutual respect and creating productive learning environmentJob Requirements
1+ years of experience in ultrasound/sonographyBasic reading, writing, oral English skillsAccountabilityMulticultural sensitivityCustomer/patient focusedBasic computer knowledgeCritical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisionsAbility to respond appropriately to customer/co-workerInteraction with a wide variety of peopleMaintain confidential informationAbility to communicate only the facts to recipients or to decline to reveal informationAbility to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanor
