Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have three major R&D development centers in San Diego and San Jose CA as well as Wilton CT.
The EUV source team in San Diego operates in a fast-paced, uniquely innovative and challenging environment to create new-to-industry solutions with rapid productization to support an aggressive commercialization plan for the EUV lithography technology within ASML. The complexity of the EUV source makes for exciting and challenging demands on the Software Engineering manager’s team members. They are engaged in all phases of software development and integration involving sophisticated control algorithms implemented in real-time embedded software executing on multiple high speed computers, all working under extremely challenging dynamic conditions to produce stable EUV light.
This individual will be responsible for managing a Software Engineering team of approximately 30 software architects, developers and quality engineers in an environment of world-class execution and technical leadership. The group is responsible for delivery of multiple complex real time software building blocks that enable the operation of the EUV source. The group works in close collaboration with expert teams of scientists, systems engineers, controls engineers, optical, electrical engineers. The successful candidate will also be capable of working closely with multiple peer group leaders in both San Diego as well as the Veldhoven HQ organization.
The successful candidate will be passionate about developing, attracting and inspiring a diverse team of software engineering professionals to support the demanding timelines of the EUV source roadmap. The candidate will partner with their counterparts in both the functional and electrical engineering disciplines to form the cross functional team necessary to execute our roadmap. Also, he/she will be responsible for strengthening the technical competence and capabilities of the group by bringing new technology and capabilities into the organization, becoming a recognized leader for key competences within the global ASML D&E organization. As a leader within the San Diego D&E organization, the successful candidate will set high standards for teamwork, collaboration and execution based on trust.
Role and responsibilities
Provide leadership and operational credibility and be visible when necessary with employees and strategic partners.
Create an organizational infrastructure that supports new development and manages the day-to-day business in an efficient manner. This involves implementation of modern software engineering processes.
Provide group direction: translate company requirements into group policy/deliverables and drive for implementation.
Demonstrates leadership in meeting cost, schedule, resource, quality and functional program objectives.
Builds and maintains a high skill level in software engineering and test of ASML products.
Proposes and leads technology development activities that minimize development time and risk in product developments.
Ensure quality of operation of your group by reviewing of technical solutions proposed, procedures, documentation delivered by the group.
Effectively identifies and utilizes outsourced engineering resources as necessary.
Develops and enforces group engineering practices and design rules, consistent with corporate objectives.
Allocates resources on a quarterly basis and responds to resource requirements on short notice.
Develops group capabilities through the definition and execution of training plans for direct reports.
May provide advanced management direction on a complex technical subject matter area (as with a cross-program, cross-group, or system-level performance issues).
Acts as a representative in cross-functional meetings to maintain coordination between the Software and the Plasma Controls and other functional organizations.
Contributes to ASML San Diego’s software engineering way of working that includes the technology, people, and processes for successful software development.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and experience
Requires a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree preferred.
10+ years of direct software engineering work experience with 5+ years of management experience with direct reports.
Possess in depth experience with both Python and C++ programming languages
In depth knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience leading complex projects/activities.
Demonstrated experience in bringing complex, real time control systems to production.
Experience managing development projects requiring a mix of different resources and engineering disciplines.

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:
$167,250-278,750
Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
The Company offers employees and their families, medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to participate in the Company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive eight (8) hours of vacation leave every month and (13) paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
