JK Executive Strategies has been retained to identify a CFO to be a senior executive management team member of a well-respected energy and utility provider in Rochester, NY. The CFO oversees all financial activities of our client's entities. This includes strategic financial planning, risk management, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The CFO will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to drive financial strategy, optimize financial performance, and support the overall business objectives of the organization.
The successful candidate will be a strategic individual who can balance hands-on duties and forge strong internal and external partnerships to help drive an economic, safe, and efficient work environment. The CFO will work with its ownership group on company valuation, capital funding requests, cash flow management, and other tasks as requested.

The CFO will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to drive financial strategy, optimize financial performance, and support the overall business objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities:
- Financial Strategy & Leadership:
- Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization's objectives.
- Provide leadership and direction for financial planning and analysis.
- Providing strategic guidance around capital financing options to support company growth needs.
- Collaborate with other executives to align financial goals with corporate strategy.
- Valuation:
- Manage and coordinate valuation models with the Portfolio and Fund Management teams from ownership.
- Develop strategies and metrics to provide continuous valuation and net asset value (NAV) growth.
- Support M&A activities in support of valuation growth.
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the accounting, treasury, and budgeting functions.
- Manage financial risks and ensure sound internal controls are in place.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results and forecasts.
- Analyzing financial results with respect to profits, trends, costs, and compliance with and development of budgets/forecasts.
- Issue financial reports to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Work with other team members to understand revenue and cost drivers and define appropriate reports for tracking.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
- Perform regular financial analysis and variance reporting to monitor performance against budget.
- Provide insights and recommendations to adjust forecasts as necessary.
- Oversee and update financial modeling
- Compliance & Governance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and debt covenants.
- Maintain relationships with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and financial institutions.
- Oversee tax planning and compliance to optimize the company's tax position.
- Managing relationships with insurance brokers, including coordination of annual policy renewals and any claims thereto, and ensuring compliance.
- Treasury Management:
- Manage capital structure and oversee funding strategies to support growth initiatives.
- Oversee capital project expenditure.
- Maintain daily banking activities and cash flow management.
- Lead banking relations, including day-to-day operating activities, as well as credit and loan activities and reporting requirements.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of performance and collaboration.
- Enhance the finance function with improved processes and systems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA, CPA or CMA preferred.
- Proven experience as CFO or in a senior financial management role (10+ years).
- Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance metrics.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- Proficient in financial software, Great Plains is a plus, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to streamline and improve processes to gain organizational efficiencies.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Prior experience in the energy, electric or natural gas utility, or municipal utility services preferred.
Salary Range:
- $215K to $235K annually + variable compensation
