Position Overview:
Detroit City FC (DCFC) is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive leadership team as we enter an exciting new phase of growth. Since our founding in 2012, DCFC has established itself as Detroit's soccer team, and we are now poised for further expansion, including the development of a new stadium. The CFO will play a key role in ensuring financial sustainability and supporting strategic initiatives to propel the club to new heights.
The CFO will oversee all financial functions and lead efforts to enhance revenue streams, optimize cost efficiencies, and drive financial planning that aligns with DCFC's long-term goals. This role requires an experienced leader with a deep understanding of sports or entertainment industries, a passion for strategic financial management, and the ability to collaborate across all areas of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead the development and execution of the organization's financial strategy to support growth, including stadium financing and capital projects.
- Collaborate with the COO and other executive team members to align financial planning with the organization's vision and long-term goals.
- Provide leadership in financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to inform strategic decision-making and business development.
- Prepare documents and supporting materials for the club's grant and investment efforts.
- Develop and execute competitive bidding and procurement initiatives.
- Direct the creation and management of the annual budget, financial plans, and multi-year forecasts.
- Monitor financial performance, offering insights and recommendations based on analysis to optimize operational and financial outcomes.
- Lead scenario planning for new revenue opportunities and strategic partnerships.
Cash Flow and Financial Operations:
- Oversee the management of day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Ensure robust cash flow management to meet operational and capital needs.
- Manage banking relationships, treasury functions, and optimize liquidity across all organizational assets.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations, including tax filings and reporting requirements.
- Prepare financial reports for ownership, the board of directors, and external stakeholders.
- Lead financial audits and ensure accuracy and integrity in financial statements.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and mentorship of the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with other departments, such as marketing, operations, corporate partnerships, and ticketing, to ensure alignment with financial objectives.
- Support contract negotiations with vendors, partners, and stakeholders to optimize financial terms and risk management.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive financial management experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in sports, entertainment, or related industries with an emphasis on financial strategy, capital projects, and growth initiatives.
- Expertise in budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a track record of leading high-performing teams.
- Proficiency in financial software (QuickBooks) and accounting systems, with advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
- Experience with stadium financing, real estate development, or capital projects is a strong plus.
