Posting Details Position Information Job Title Data & Analytics Specialist Summary The Data & Analytics Specialist is responsible for managing CSSA data, including the GivePulse database, compliance tracking, and service-learning assessments; analyzing and reporting on key service-learning data, progress-to-goals, and other KPIs relevant to the work. This staff member serves as a key university resource for administering the GivePulse database for the campus community, collaborating with other departments regarding data usage and analysis, and implementing improvements to existing systems. This role supervises the data intern and marketing intern overseeing the communications and marketing efforts of the office. This work includes coordinating marketing content, planning and execution, and facilitating communications processes with service-learning students carried out by student staff. Duties and Responsibilities Provide overall management and coordination of existing data and relational database systems, including all service-learning and community engagement data, ensure data integrity for analysis, reporting, and dashboard creation in order to inform and drive decision-making for experiential-learning programs. Configure and manage the service-learning registration database (GivePulse). Manage the student registration and engagement process for all academic service-learning courses providing support for students and faculty. Upload all service activities into the registration portal each semester, track student registration and participation in service. Manage and track the engagement and compliance processes for service-learning students and university-wide service events (Meet CLE, Jesuit Day of Service, etc.); this includes configuration of GivePulse; collaboration with community partners, on-campus stakeholders (Health Center, JCU Police Department), and CSSA staff; tracking compliance status and supporting students. Develop and maintain queries from CSSA data sources to provide useful reports on a timely basis. Prepare custom reports, interactive dashboards, and relevant data insights for internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, board of trustees, community partners, and practitioners. Utilize analytical (Excel, SQL, R, etc.) and visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) to wrangle, clean, transform, and mine data; create dashboards to track key metrics and generate reports to inform decision-making. Coordinate the adoption and configuration of Slate with on-campus stakeholders, and join data from Slate, Banner, GivePulse, DegreeWorks, Coursedog, and other data sources, in order to create, prototype, and test an experiential-learning dashboard. Manage database system enhancements and upgrades including those in GivePulse to support civic engagement initiatives. Document system design and processes for the training, reference and education of team members on processes and system functionality. Supervise and coordinate the work of the data intern, which includes training and administration of GivePulse database, outreach to campus stakeholders for service-based data and usage, service attendance tracking and analysis, cleaning and transformation of data, and creation of statistical reports. Supervise and coordinate the work of the marketing intern, which includes: marketing content creation, including digital media (website, e-news, social media, photography) and print materials (reports, flyers, and pamphlets); social media planning and implementation; analytics of marketing content; and development of CSSA brand among internal and external audiences. Implement brand and marketing strategy in collaboration with Director. Coordinate the registration processes and assist with CSSA special events and large group service projects such as Meet CLE, and Jesuit Day of Service. Fulfill other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Director. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in data management and analytics or related field of study Two or more years prior experience in higher education, database management or service-learning Advanced proficiency in Excel, proficiency in Qualtrics Must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent attention to detail Ability to work well in a highly collaborative team environment Ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment Ability to work well with and mentor college students Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll's mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world Preferred Qualifications Masters in data management, data analytics or related field of study Three or more years prior experience working in database management in higher education Familiarity with GivePulse database platform Advanced proficiency with Qualtrics, Tableau, Excel, Slate, Power BI, R Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions This position works in person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations. Physical Requirements Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Potential for heavy lifting/carrying, extensive standing/walking, and exposure to weather and hazardous materials happens twice a year during the two labor-intensive service projects - Meet CLE and Jesuit Day of Service. If staff member is unable to handle any of these, accomodations can be made. Hours Full Time FLSA Exempt (Salary) Compensation & Benefits Starting salary will be $45,000 - $58,000, commensurate with qualifications.
