Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, School Based.
Job Responsibilities:Delivers primary health care to studentsOperates as the site supervisor and provides leadership to staffFunctions as a health team member in meeting the objectives of the program in the schoolEstablishes a data base of information about pediatric patients by obtaining health historiesConducts basic periodic physical assessments; orders appropriate screening and routine diagnostic testsRecords findings in a systematic and accurate formAssesses the status of the patient by discriminating between normal and abnormal physical findings and recognizes deviations from normal growth and developmentProvides routine immunizations according to NYSDOH standardsProvides treatment for minor illnesses and accidentsMakes comprehensive assessments and decisions, and plans careFunctions independently and recognizes when a collaborative consultation is appropriateProvides outpatient follow-up treatment by encouraging families to call when they have concernsFollows up on emergency, clinic and hospital visits and referrals, as appropriateAssumes responsibility for daily management of site activities and acts as a resource to other staff members involved in the care of patientsSupervises the medical clerical staff and participates in their performance evaluationEnsuring the site follows continuous quality assurance standards and meets DOH complianceContributes to the periodic review and modification of Medical ProtocolsEnsures that all patients, visitors and coworkers are treated with dignity and respectJob Requirements:
Represent the organization at meetings with School/DOE LeadershipMaster of Science in Nursing from an accredited university requiredCertified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified via National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners, or the American Nursing AssociationCurrent license to practice professional nursing and as a nurse practitioner in the State of New YorkBilingual (Spanish/English) preferredAbility to work effectively and enthusiastically with children and adolescents, families, professionals and other personnel from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds
