Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. City Light’s Electrification and Strategic Technology Division oversees the utility’s efforts related to transportation and building electrification, grid modernization, and strategic technology. The Lighting Design Lab sits within this division and serves as a public- and market-facing education, training, and demonstration resource center.Seattle City Light is seeking a Strategic Advisor II to ensure the utility’s programs, projects, and initiatives are aligned with electrification strategic objectives, with an emphasis on building electrification, clean energy workforce development, and grid readiness policy and partnerships.

This position reports to Lighting Design Lab’s Executive Director.

Here is more about what you’ll be doing:

Align utility programs and initiatives to strategic objectives identified in the utility’s Building Electrification Strategy and the Transportation Electrification Strategic Investment Plan.Coordinate closely with portfolio managers across the utility to ensure strategies are aligned and moving towards common objectives.Set and manage operational targets, support program development, and integrate stakeholder feedback on an ongoing basis to identify and implement solutions that meet customer, stakeholder, and business needs.Seek out, engage, and collaborate with City Light and City departments to support goal development, execution, and change management.Develop and track appropriate metrics to assist in evaluating program effectiveness and success.Build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with community-level organizations, stakeholders, and other agencies.Oversee and coordinate external funding deployment, including Inflation Reduction Act rebates.Advise and make recommendations to City Light and City executives as needed.Manage regulatory and policy issues, including reporting requirements.Stay abreast of market and technology developments relevant to electrification.Develop and deliver executive presentations and communicate technical and policy information in a manner accessible for a variety of audiences.Support strategic and business planning activities related to the Lighting Design Lab’s transition to electrification technologies and workforce development.Other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.Required Qualifications:

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration, public administration, political science or a related field (or a combination of education and/or experience with building electrification, distributed energy resource and/or decarbonization technology programs that provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Experience:Minimum of 5 years’ of progressively responsible experience providing strategic and operational support in policy, innovation, emerging technologies, electrification, distributed energy resource, and/or decarbonization technology or related field.Experience implementing policies and/or programs and providing outreach to key stakeholders.A proven ability to support and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver complex customer-facing products and projects.Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.Proven project management skills and attention to detail.Ability to build trust and value-based relationships with employees at all levels of internal and external organizations, with a commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.Excellent organizational, analysis, and problem-solving skills including applying analysis and statistical methods to study complex and unique business issues.Certification/License:

Driver’s License or equivalent mobility.

Desired Qualifications:Master’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration, public policy, or public administration.5 or more years of utility or energy sector experience with significant portion of experience in electrification.Experience with leading/managing high performing teams of subject matter experts (SMEs) and contributors.Demonstrated self-starter and strong leader with sound judgement and ability to identify and develop solutions to complex problems.Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.Knowledge of and commitment to sound environmental policies and practices, and to promoting policies consistent with City Light and City of Seattle’s climate policy, and with other key strategic Citywide initiatives including those related to racial diversity and social justice.Knowledge of public sector organization and practices; familiarity with city/municipal organizations preferred.Experience working with personnel and human relations policy and issues, including organized labor.Experience with developing strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.The full salary range for this position is $52.50 to $78.78 per hour.
