Description of Work Continued: Primary Purpose of the Position: This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, including remote/hybrid work. Fayetteville State University employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The IT Database Administrator III position designs, documents, configures, implements, and/or manages various databases to support a variety of applications, processes, etc. at Fayetteville State University. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. The IT Database Administrator III will be involved in the planning and development of databases, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of users. The IT Database Administrator III advises management on database concepts, functional capabilities, parameters, and prototypes. This position requires extensive skills and experience in database architecture, implementation, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting, as well as cloud-hosted applications. The IT Database Administrator III is also responsible for providing support for specific applications. In addition, the IT Database Administrator III will provide a second and third-level response for incidents reported by ITS tier-one support and monitoring systems. This position requires an in-depth understanding of Banner ERP information system and modules, database optimization development, application programming, report writing development, electronic form development, and functional expertise with the full array of Banner applications, as well as unique interface solutions and support for required campus interfaces to non-Banner campus applications. Operational Management 65% Support, administer, and maintain the Banner ERP system, including Application Navigator, Administrative and Self-Service Applications, ESM, and integrated products. Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server database systems. Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues. Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements. Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems. Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases. Build and configure Banner modules to perform needed functionality according to documented processes and procedures. Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels. Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices in database use and system integration. Understand the needs and requirements of the applications using the databases and provide support for these applications. Manage multiple applications accessing the same database. Write and debug lines of SQL code for applications. Installation of patches and upgrades, including both standalone and clustered server environments Assist with the implementation of new software and upgrades of existing software. Other duties as assigned. Strategy and Planning 35% Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers. Work with application staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures. Assist in developing and testing a disaster recovery and business continuity plan. Identify and prioritize system functions required to promote continuity and availability of critical business processes such that in the circumstance of system failure, critical University functions are restored or recovered promptly. Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements: A master's degree in computer science, computer information systems, computer engineering, or a closely related field with two to four years of experience in database management/data integration OR a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, computer engineering, or a closely related field with three to five years of experience in data management/data integration OR an Equivalent combination of education or experience. All degrees should be from an appropriately accredited institution. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: Knowledge & Experience: 3 years of equivalent work experience in a position responsible for managing, upgrading, and migrating databases and applications in an Ellucian Banner environment. Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting database servers and applications. E.g., SQL Server, Oracle Database, MySQL. Working knowledge of Unix and Java is preferred. Must have extensive experience programming in PL/SQL and be able to quickly and efficiently produce both SQL queries and custom PL/SQL code. Strong knowledge and experience with stored procedures and optimizing them to improve overall database performance. Experience with enterprise-level applications that include, but are not limited to, Banner Workflow, NextGen, And AppWorx/UC4/Automic. Must be extremely familiar with the Banner data model and its naming conventions and have experience extracting and transforming this information for a variety of purposes. Direct experience with the student data structures is required, and I prefer to have experience with other modules as well. Experience in developing strategic plans. Firsthand experience with business requirements gathering/analysis. Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices. Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques. Strong knowledge of software evaluation principles and practices. Proven project planning and management experience. Other Requirements: Must possess the ability to recognize and resolve system and software-related problems; work independently and make necessary decisions within department guidelines; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively; communicate technical and complex information both orally and in writing.
