Summary of DutiesIndependently and jointly review plans and construction documents per City Codes. Provide high quality customer services in the Community Development Department. Reviews and approves requests for permits and proposals relating to building, land use, zoning, development, property maintenance, dwelling rental, for general health, safety and welfare. Coordinates review and issuance of various types of planning applications and building permits with other city personnel to streamline the process.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReviews plans, specifications, and calculations for building code compliance and assists with the interpretation and application of adopted building code. Coordinates with internal partners e.g. Planning/Zoning, Fire Prevention, Public Works, Water, for plan review consistency and streamlining permit process.Review, interpret, and provide information and direction to the public regarding applicable local, state and federal regulations, codes, ordinances, documents, standards, and guidelines, including the City Master Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, and other City regulations.Provides written reports, staff comment letters, and other information to professional engineers, architects, contractors and the public regarding building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical codes, zoning ordinances, and general requirements concerning buildings and structures.Utilizes computer software program to record and track information pertinent to plan review process.Responsible for on-time performance and accuracy of his/her own work.Maintain a variety of files and records.Participate in analyzing and researching land use data and trends.May attend meetings of various commissions, committees and other bodies or pertaining to special projects in support of the Community Development Director.Assists with special projects and performs other similar duties as assigned by Community Development Director.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone.Budgetary ResponsibilitiesNone.Minimum QualificationsMust possess an ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in any professionally recognized architectural/engineering discipline as required by the hiring authority. Equivalent work experience with a minimum of two (2) years may be considered.Must obtain and maintain appropriate ICC certification within twelve (12) months of employment.Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by the City.Must possess a valid Driver’s License.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and CompetenciesProficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, etc.;Knowledge of the International Code Council (ICC) codes and electrical codes;Knowledge of construction, construction management, planning, and zoning standards, codes and procedures;Knowledge of land-use and community planning practices;Knowledge of housing and occupancy regulations;Knowledge of operations and function of government agencies and regulations;Ability to read construction drawings and solve technical equations;Ability to graphically convey data and planning proposals in the form of maps, charts, and graphs.Ability to manage goals, objectives, and policies;Ability to make decisions, to interpret code and plan provisions, and to convey these decisions and interpretations clearly to staff and policy-makers as well as to professionals, contractors, the business community, and to the public;Ability to accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files;Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment;Skill in communications with others, including superiors, peers, subordinates, the business community, and the general public.Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Other RequirementsWork is mainly performed in an office environment, with limited amount in the field;May be required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, talk and hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and operate a motor vehicle;May be required to lift/move up to 25 pounds (such as a box of paper).Please apply via the following link:
