The Opportunity
As the Senior Vice President of Accounting, you will hold a critical position in leading and optimizing our organization's financial operations, particularly focusing on accounting operations and performance, financial planning and analysis, and treasury management. Your role will be central to ensuring the efficiency, accuracy, and compliance of our accounting and financial activities. This pivotal role demands a high level of financial expertise, meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational and effective communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders. As the Senior Vice President of Accounting, you will be directly or indirectly responsible for overseeing the accounting department of 11 total team members.
Location preferences include Charlottesville, VA; Media, PA; or Washington, D.C. However, consideration will also be given to candidates interested in Charlotte, NC, or Atlanta, GA.

Job Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Accounting Operations and Performance
- Establish and maintain internal accounting processes, procedures, and controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks while focusing on cybersecurity, adherence to regulations, and best practices.
- Directly manage and foster a collaborative and inclusive environment within the accounting team, providing mentorship, setting performance goals, and offering feedback to ensure a high-functioning organization.
- Administer all accounting functions and systems, including internal controls, cybersecurity, and software platforms such as the Yardi Suite, Asana, and Google Drive.
- Ensure organizational compliance by actively adapting to changes in financial laws, regulations, and reporting standards, while implementing risk management strategies.
- Manage and oversee all audits, working closely with external auditors from various organizations.
- Create and maintain the tax calendar and review all tax returns, including for partnerships and elected c-corps, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal filing requirements.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with investors, business partners, external auditors, and legal advisors.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, reports, and disclosures in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP or IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the annual budgeting processes, working closely with executives, department heads, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive budgets aligned with company goals.
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning.
- Administer the company's treasury management services while reviewing, managing, and improving cash controls.
- Monitor and forecast cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity and optimize working capital management.
- Establish and maintain relationships with financial institutions and manage banking relationships.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience with real estate financial software (e.g., Yardi) preferred.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership abilities with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Impeccable attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
- Strong organizational aptitude coupled with proven time management proficiency.

- Master's degree in accounting or equivalent; CPA required.
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in finance or accounting roles.
- Experience from a top 10 public accounting firm, focused on either Audit or Tax.
- Experience working with clients from Real Estate Operating Companies, Real Estate Private Equity, or REITs.
