We are seeking candidates for the position of Rail Vehicle & Equipment General Mechanic 1st Class (0831) in the Rail Vehicle Maintenance departments.
Compensation Data
-for SEPTA City Transit Division:
$35/hr.
(Increase to
$39/hr . after 12 months)
-for SEPTA Suburban Transit Division:
$34/hr . (Increase to
$38/hr.
after 12 months)
-for SEPTA Regional Railroad Division:
$34/hr . (Increase to
$38/hr . after 12 months)

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
Responsible for the inspection, cleaning, maintenance of rail vehicle electrical, pneumatic and mechanic equipment.Inspects, adjusts, replaces, tests, assembles, installs, motors, accessory parts, vehicle trucks, parts, truck frames, brake equipment, truck assemblies, air equipment, gears, wheels, brake shoes, etc.Cleans and lubricates equipment, units, parts such as compressors, air filters, air tank mechanisms, brake cylinders, etc.Check equipment units, parts such as contactor tips for gap, interlock and controlling fingers and tips for wipe and clearance springs for compression and tension, etcADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
To be proficient in the testing of rail vehicle and equipment in the diagnosis and repair of defects of electrical, electronic air conditioning and air brake equipment of rail vehicles; performs other related duties.Inspects with gauges, meters and applicable test equipment to determine necessary repairs or renewals; determines extent of repairs, adjustment or replacements required on electrical, electronic pneumatic and mechanical equipment.Inspects, trouble-shoots, disassembles, repairs, assembles and adjusts contractor interlocks, relays, group switches and sequence switch drums; manufactures metal and fiber parts.Computes all necessary forms and work orders to maintain current vehicle histories, inspection records and other related paperwork.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must have high school diploma or equivalent.Must have experience in the repair of mechanical equipment, electrical, electronic and air brake equipment. HVAC experience a plus. Experience working on rail cars preferred.Possession of a certificate of completion in electrical/electronic field from a vocational/technical school certificate program or comparable certification is highly desired.Must be computer literate with basic knowledge of multi-meters and meggars.Will be required to possess or obtain hand tools as designated by the position's tool list.Must have valid driver's license or equivalent.Must satisfactorily complete qualifications tests.Must satisfactorily complete performance tests as required.Will be required to detail relevant training and work.BENEFITS
