Multiple Locations in Snohomish CountyDESCRIPTION:The Assistant Teacher works under the direction of the Lead Teachers in our Head Start and ECEAP preschool classrooms, implementing individualized curriculum and ensuring the health and safety of all students. The Assistant teacher builds trusting relationships with children that honor individual differences, cultural & linguistic backgrounds, and current circumstances. This is a classified position reporting to the Education Site Manager.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:100%: Assisting and Teaching in a Preschool ClassroomInstruct children in a classroom settingImplement individual child educational programming and prepare curriculum materials as directed by the Lead TeacherRecord anecdotal observations, conduct screenings and assessments according to standardized instructionsMaintain paper and electronic documentation and recordsExecute classroom snack and meal serviceSet up a preschool classroom (including moving of childs size furniture, tables, chairs, shelves, and regular sized shelving units)Maintain the health and safety of all children and their environmentEnsure that no child is ever left alone or unsupervisedTake the lead in managing the classroom during the Lead Teacher¿s daily office hours, and whenever the Lead Teacher is absentMeet weekly with teaching team to discuss classroom needs and responsibilitiesMust be able to walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor, lift approximately 50 pounds, sit in a childs size chair, and move quickly from multiple positions and levelsAbility to perform regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and the use of cleaning productsObtain and maintain Inter Rater Reliability using Teaching Strategies Gold within one year of employmentOther duties as assignedKEY COMPETENCIES (specific knowledge, skills or skill sets, and/or abilities necessary to perform work activities):Be able to perform all the essential functions of the positionAbility to work independently, but also be a team playerAbility to problem-solve and handle sensitive information and difficult situations tactfully and confidentiallyMust be knowledgeable of and work in accordance with Head Start/ECEAP Performance Standards, Federal, State, and College policies and regulations, and negotiated agreementsMust be able to use a computer for written communicationMust be able to respond to and initiate communication with program employees and enrolled familiesMust be able to exhibit cultural humility when working with staff and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgroundsMust be able to prioritize unplanned but required duties with ongoing confirmed deadlines. Application Procedures and Required Documents , below.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Enrolled in, or commitment to enroll in during first year of employment, an early childhood education program at a college or university, or Childhood Development Associate (CDA) credentialing programOne year of work experience in a preschool classroomPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:One of the following:Washington State Initial Early Childhood Education Certificate, orTwelve credits in early childhood education, leading to an Associates or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, orA current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential(See Conditions of Employment section for additional requirements.)PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed in an early learning environment, and onsite/in-person. The ability to sit, bend, stoop, walk and generally move around the classroom and over uneven surfaces to work with children is required. The position requires some lifting and moving up to 50lbs in an emergency situation. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. Beginning salary is $3,393 per month, for a 10.5 month cyclic work period. Progressive increases to $4,093 per month, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 10 sick days per year, 10 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 2 personal leave days, and 11.5 vacation days per year (incremental increases to 20 vacation days per year).CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.Criminal background check . Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted.
