Job Summary
Under the direction of a Medical Director (Supervising Physician), responsible for all aspects of patient care as a Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and the overall management of the Rio Grande Border Health Clinic (RGBHC) on the Rio Grande Campus, including collaborating in the supervision of nursing clinical faculty, support staff and volunteers. Provide instruction to student nurses, and allied health students in the clinic setting. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
Elicit comprehensive health histories, perform complete physical examinations, order and perform diagnostic tests, analyze data (to include laboratory tests) and formulate problem lists, develop and implement plans of care, collaborate with other health professionals, and refer patients as appropriate; provide care within the family nurse practitioner scope of practice to promote health and wellness: health education; disease and injury prevention; diagnose and treat many common conditions and chronic illnesses; prescribe medications and treatments; provide care across the age continuum from newborn to geriatric populations.
Serve as community liaison with other healthcare agencies to provide additional services and resources to patients as needed to include local public hospitals, community clinics, private providers, diagnostic facilities, department of state health services, and city health department.
Collaborate with the Nursing Faculty Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate clinical rotations for nursing and other students in the clinic. Teach all aspects of obtaining a complete health history and physical examination techniques. Provide an opportunity for students to have hands-on experience in performing physical examinations to include learning and observing normal and abnormal variations.
Collaborate with the Clinic Coordinator to manage and supervise nursing clinical faculty, staff, student workers, and volunteers.
Collaborate with the Dean of Nursing and Clinic Coordinator to manage Nursing Clinic's budget to include maintaining appropriate records, and monitoring account funds.
Collaborate with the Clinic Coordinator to maintain inventory of and order supplies and equipment as needed.
Provide and Coordinate for Texas Vaccine for Children's program to include, all requirements are met to maintain participation in a program that provides low-cost (or no-cost) vaccines to qualifying children.
Provide physical examinations to children meeting the Texas Health Step (THS) Physical Examination requirements and maintain necessary requirements as a THS provider.
Collaborate with nursing faculty and the Nursing Faculty Coordinator to coordinate and supervise the RGBHC participation in EPCC community Health Fairs, promoting RGBHC community services and increasing community access to health care.
Responsible for ongoing monitoring of patient satisfaction and ongoing improvements to improve patient flow and patient care delivery in the clinic.
Collaborate with the Clinic Coordinator to maintain patient and employee records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
Responsible for coordinating, consulting with, and periodically meeting with supervising physician to review the delivery of care in the clinic.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Master's Degree in Nursing, (Family Nurse Practitioner Program), and three (3) years of work experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner in a health clinic with demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in providing patient care, prescribing medications, maintaining a supervisory relationship with the overseeing physician, and supervision of nursing staff.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Texas (unencumbered) with prescriptive ability.
3. National Certification from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
4. Experience/ability to teach in the nursing discipline using a student-centered approach.
5. Strong Interpersonal and organizational skills.
6. Effective oral and written communication skills.
7. Working knowledge of the legal responsibilities, boundaries, and licensing requirements for an Advanced Practice Nurse.
8. Ability to organize and direct a nursing clinic and staff.
Special Conditions:
1. This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College's policies and procedures.

3. Tenure track position; annual academic year employment contract leading toward tenure consideration during fifth year of employment.
